I want to have something that can plug into the wall and allow me to test 12v car electronics in the comfort of my garage or home.

Specifically the power folding heated mirrors... I would love to just have a power supply to experiment with the open/closing, adjustment and heating features and my multimeter.

I am assuming I would need to get something like this:

Then cut the cigarette lighter connection off, split the wires and attach either gator clips or probe testers (making sure they never touch)

Am I correct?

Option a) Used Car Battery.. + / - go nuts.
Option b) 12 Volt A/C adapter. As in 110v AC input and 12v DC output (common house hold electronics uses these)
Option c) 12-13.8 DC regulators.. These are what most repair shops use.. ebay linkage (http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=Radio+Shack+3+AMP+12+Volt+DC+Regulated+Power+Supply+NEW)

Ya I would say put a fuse inline, especially if you don't know exactly what you are doing.

I usually use the jump pack if it's sitting around and not in a car trunk.
