Newbie Question regarding tail lights

Hello Everyone,

I'm completely new to SLI and don't know much about subaru's at all but I'm looking at getting a 2003 L spec. editon (think it's a BE??). This might be a dumb question but I was just wondering about the taillights and where it says "subaru" does that part light up as well?? Because I've seen one where only the two outside lights light up.

My 95 (BD) doesn't and my friends 93 doesn't, if it does on the BE I am extremely jealous. :evil:

No. BE tails do not light up the Subaru logo. If one wanted to wire it in though...

It does not light up. Only to two tail lights on each side (4 altogether including the corners) illuminate. Although, if you have some electrical knowledge and have a clever imagination, I am sure you can make it light up.

Also, you are correct (assuming you have a sedan). The 2000-2004 Sedans are a BE chasis, and the 00-04 Wagons are a BH chasis. :wink:

... And Germany, and almost all European countries since a rear fog on the drivers side is required by law. They didn't put them on US cars because the average American doesn't understand it's purpose or when to use it.

The rear fog light is for use in dense fog. It's so drivers behind you can see you. It's not supposed to be used during the day or in non-foggy conditions. Just like frontal fog lamps, they should really only be used at slow-speeds as well.

They are switched, like regular fog lamps, and their use is to the drivers discretion. Not many people know the actual intended use, and either never use the light, or use it all the time (which 99% of the time is incorrectly). If American's don't have it, they can't use it wrong (and potentially dangerously), even if it is a saftey feature (again, if used correctly).

Now I maybe wrong but isn't there a difference between fog lamps and driving lamps? I thought what was on stock on most USDM cars were actually driving lamps?

I think so too, but most people are used to saying fog lights.

Sounds like the rear fogs are like DRL, except brighter

They're referred to as foglights by the 1995 Subaru Brochure I have. They're definitely more like foglights in pattern as well.
