Yea not necessary at all what so ever, mine has been open for over a year and not a single problem. And it definitely does function as a vent/scoop for sure.

He's referring to the part that keeps the outside air from coming into the engine through the hoodscoop I believe.
The only issues you could really run into is electrical problems if a wire is exposed or something when it gets really wet. But I doubt you'd really have issues. The engine bay is meant to get damp without issue. Go for it!

I would say not to,
only because of the winters here,
salt isn't good. :-D

I doubt much salt is going to get through the tiny scoop that doesnt already go through the massive grill and bumper holes. Not to mention the whole open underbelly of the car.
I also say nay to the electrical problems. Copper wire is a much better conductor than a bit of gritty road water.

I took mine about about a month or so ago, and like the rest of the members who have chimed in, I have had no problems. I get a carwash about once a week so water getting into the engine bay has yet to produce any ill consequences. Also, there is now an opening for the cool air to flow directly onto my cold air intake.

so is it easy to take off? im not sure, ive looked at it but dont see any screws.

Yeah, its actually really simple. Just pop the hood and feel through the anti-fire/insulation material for, I believe, about 8 screws. You can either peel the material back with some force just enough to unscrew the screws at an agle or you can push the screwdriver through the material to unscrew the screws. After the screws are removed, just shake the metal plate a little bit and before you know it will come out.

Edit:
i took it off and decided to put it back on lol. its a big hole and i feel insecure about it. some punks might throw shit in it or something. and its been rainy here, so i decided not to take it off.

Dude. All the 91-94 TLegs had holes in the hood for air and they came open as stock equipment. Your engine isn't that sensitive to water. I've powersprayed the shit out of mine and not fried anything. Trust me, the last thing your engine is worried about is water. Look at those people who drive their cars through big giant puddles without problem.

You might want to talk to Pwise about the problems he had when he opened up his hood scoop. I think I remember something on the board before the crash about problems he had when he did it.

I remember a post about that. He said he had some electrical messes, but if you're worried, pour dielectric grease all over everything.

I would like to state, that I just did an engine cleaning, and
OMG................that plate that we are talking about
was covered in salt.
(but once again, I'm in an area were salt is used way too much)

they use sand here not salt so im not worried about that. as far as water, i wash in engine on all cars and have never had any probs from that. besides it don rain but 3 days outta a year here.
