Hi there, new to the site. Hopefully someone can answer my question. Although I do not have a complete Subaru any more, this should be the place I am looking for.

I had a 98 Legacy AWD 2.2l automatic. I also own a 75 Bradley GT2. I stripped out the Subaru engine, trans, all sensors and components and every piece of wire in the car, I left the fuel tank and filler in the car. The plan is a mid engine Subaru powered Bradley. Most of the build is completed.

My problem is when I stripped the car I cut the hoses that are connected to the charcoal cannister and fuel tank. Thinking my alldata program would have the required info I sent the remains of the car to the scrap yard. Well alldata sucks for evap info.

I built my own tank. Now I am trying to reconstruct the evap system. The cannister is marked purge/drain/tank. I have 2 valves, vent valve for 1/2" hoses and purge valve for 1/4" hoses. Every diagram I have seen shows the purge up at the engine but mine was at the back of the car.

I am thinking the purge port on the cannister goes to the engine with the purge valve in line with it.
The vent valve hooks to the drain port on the cannister then to an air filter located above the cannister.
The tank port on the cannister goes straight to the tank.

Am I right?
Where on the tank did the cannister to tank hose connect?
How does the tank vent when the engine is running?

Welcome Dan.

I have to say that your build is one unique hybrid of retro and somewhat retro :-D

You can find a copy of you the 1998 Legacy Factory Service Manual here --> https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=1 ... t=+factory (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=20753&hilit=+factory)

The evap and vacuum pdf's are located
--> SubaruLegacy1998 ( sl-i.net ).zip\1998\Service Manual\ENGINE SECTION\EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM AND VACUUM FITTING

Nice to see another local on the forum.

I wish you the best of luck...

Thank you, unfortunately it does not contain any emissions hose diagrams. Also the electrical diagram section [actual wiring diagram] of this file is corrupted. I downloaded all online manuals I could find for the 98 legacy and they all have the same problem.

Edit: this information would be for the old style cylindrical evap tank, but the basic principle is the same.

Large line on top of canister:
> Goes to gas tank breather. There's a rollover valve between the tank and the canister, I believe.

Small line on top of canister:
> Goes to purge solenoid, which then goes to the left-pointing nipple on the throttle body as you look at the engine from the front

Large line on bottom of canister:
> A drain for condensation or something, stick a hose on it and route it somewhere so it can drain

When the engine is running, the ECU will command the purge solenoid to open and let the engine's vacuum draw vapors that are stored in the canister into the intake where they're burned. The rear-mounted tank should be the same in that regard.
