Ok, so as I was sitting on my friends impreza outback I noticed that the rear speaker is on the rear door panel and not above & behind the rear seats. Since the sedan/outback/wagon use the same rear doors, I figured it will fit.

Created a topic viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23779 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23779) and thanks to dead91silvia, He confirmed that the sedan panel has an outline for the grill already and also have a hole for 6.5 speakers.

If you want to do it the easy way, you can just buy the rear door panels off the legacy outback/wagon and swap em over. Different years and different models come in different color/shade so since my 98 gt came with leather, it was easier to source the outback grill at pick and pull. Cost for both grill is $6 while the whole door panel i think is $20 each.

This is how the cutout looks like from the outback

Drill the blue dots (used 21/64 bit)
Cut along the red dotted line with a dremmel. Its basically between the two outline.
Repeat on the other side

Now wire up a pair of 6.5 and enjoy your extra speakers! :smt020

I've been wanting to do this for years. But being busy with other projects and not finding a clean set of wagon panels have made it difficult. Did yours come pre wired? I looked real quick on mine and didn't see anything.

I havent installed a speaker yet but i dont think its prewired. Unlike the front tweeter, i didnt see any connector for an extra speaker

I am 99% sure that it is not prewired. I recall taking a rear door panel off when doing my front and rear speakers and there were no extra/unused wires.

Yeah, not pre-wired... I was about to do this to mine after we had talked about it but I dont have the right color grills yet. I have a set of 97 OB ones, but they are light gray...

That turned out nice and clean for sure! I'm gonna be on the look out for a set of grills and see about a set of speakers also! Should be one rock'n system with 6 speakers!
