This is a big job and should not be taken lightly! To do this right and finish, it WILL take you a day if you are doing this by yourself. Much faster if a friend is helping. I did it in stages because this car was a daily driver at the time and never did get a full day to finish.

NOTE:When getting the replacement part, make sure the motor has NOT been removed! They are set on a cable system and getting the adjustment right for both front and rear sunroofs are damn near imposable. I paid $125 for a complete rear half assembly, removing it myself. Also make sure everything works before removing. I jumped the motor with a drill battery...

I have found out that the BH/BE Legacys have a problem with sunroofs going bad for one reason or another. Mine had a problem with the front not venting and also not completely sealing it and let it leak. If you dont know how to change your oil yet, DONT even think about doing this! Find someone that know whats going on if something is not going right. Best way to learn is by taking one out at the wrecking yard.

I took all the pics as I was installing, so it might be a little odd... haha

So here is your headliner, you ready?

There are many places you can start, so there really is not a right or wrong place to start... Dont forget they have a bunch of clips that will need to be removed...

Remove A-pillar trim

Remove sun visors and "Oh Shit" handles (no pics, you can figure that one out)... Remember to unplug the visors vanity lights...

Remove all that wonderful rubber molding! Also, you will need to remove the B-pillar trim (forgot to take a pic of that), they are a PITA to take off... Also C/D pillar trim needs to be removed along with the rear upper panel. Should be just a bunch of Phillips screws and some clips.

I saved this for last, run your rear window back and remover these clips. The only other things you will have to remove is your dome lights and sunroof controls (sorry no pics, but you get the idea... One if front, one in the middle, one in the rear).

I Might have missed something so PLEASE be careful and take your time. It's not a race!

This is what you should have and it should come right out, just do it slow as not to damage the headliner...

Removing the sunroof is... interesting for sure... You will need to run your rear window back at least half way (if I remember right) if not all the way. You my need to plug the controls back in, but thats no biggy...

ok, now we are ready to take more stuff apart...
front glass removal...
remover these clips from back side of front glass trim

There are about 5-7 10mm bolts holding up the cover/surround/trim what ever the hell you want to call it. Take those off. If I remember right, 3 10mm at the rear, 2 10mm at the front.

As soon as the cover is out of the way remove the nuts at the rear of the glass. There is also 2 covers over these nuts, but not hand at all to remove.

Next remove the two 10mm bolts at the front. Do it slow as there is two shims that I damn near lost! Just take you time and it wont be a problem...

Your front glass is now out!

now its time for the rear... If you can get some help, that is best. Even your wife can help with this, doesn't matter who, you will just need to hold the main part of the sunroof assembly up so it doesn't fall and bend/break stuff. It's kinda heavy, but manageable.

Make sure EVERYTHING is unplugged and harnesses are also removed from frame! It's not easy to unplug whet it hanging in mid air!

There are a few mounts, all with 10mm bolts. Some are for the sunroof, some are for the roof rack, the roof rack ones leave lone, they dont need to be touched at all! But if you want to remove the rack for any reason, this a good start. Also, when removing the bolts for the sunroof brackets, not all need to be completely removed. They might need to be though, if you didnt get them with the new part.

You may as well clean out all the sun roof drains. I blew a ton of crap out of the rears! Might have been one reason I had a soggy trunk. I used Air to do this. There are about 6 lines so it will be interesting. I had someone hold their finger over a couple other lines to blow each out.

These are all the pics I have for this job. This is all the major things I can think of as of now. It's going to take you about 6-8 hours of work. I know I missed a few things, but this will get you started and at least know how big of a job it is and if this is something you want to do yourself.

NOTE:When installing, remember all the side "L" style brackets have adjustment in them! You need to make sure they are all snug so the glass will seal properly...

Post in here if there is anything I didnt cover... :smt023

Do you know if there is a way to get the sunroof to manually close all the way, even if it means not being able to open again? The sunroof on my BH does not close all the way and is leaking. Thanks.

The only way I can think of to make it close without the motor is to remove the motor and then pull or push the window, but this in only in theory.

OK. I will try that and if it doesn't work try to figure out something cheap. This car is just a beater that gets driven maybe 10K a year.

I ended up with a leak coming through my dome light, and removed my headliner to find the front drain tubes
completely plugged causing it to back up in the drain trays. Absolutely right this is not a fun job, but if you
have someone to help you it makes a huge difference.
Can the the front and rear slide covers be removed easily, without removing the rear structure ?
