I have no idea what to call this thing! hahaha

Skill level 1-5

Level 1-2 A challenge for a beginner, but not too hard.

Anyway, I had this idea ever since I got my SLi sticker's and this was something I have been wanting to do and just got it all done. Took me about 20 minutes to make...

CHECK LOCAL LAWS! THIS MIGHT BE ILLEGAL IN YOUR STATE!
(it is in WA... shhh... dont tell anyone!) :smt027

I know that some states dont have a front plate law, I know WA does have a front plate law, but I have never got flack about it, or at least in the last 4 years. They leave me alone. Also JDM plates have different widths so you have to build or modify something to make them work. We will just say I'm a rebel and dont like to run a front plate.

Some of you have seen my Carbon Fiber spare tire cover I made from an old Honda Civic hood. Well, I still have some hood left to play with...

This is one of the smaller sections I have left of the hood... I made a cardboard template to get a rough idea of what I needed. Worked well!

Then measured all edges to make sure they were the same...
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/03/IMG_8837-1.jpg

I used a cut off wheel to cut it, works great! Just make sure you use a dust mask! You can also use a Dremel...

This is what I ended up with... Also cut the back side since C/F is not to flexible when it's clear-coated...

Measure for your holes, you only got one shot so make it count! I held it to the front of the bumper and used a sharpy
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/03/IMG_8843-1.jpg

I got some nice fasteners to mount it. JDM and USDM bumpers are a little different, but same idea.

Apply sticker and shazam! You got something cool!

Now this is not the most hard thing to make and it was kinda fun! Took me about 20 minutes!

I dont have any pics of it, but I did round the edges and sanded the flat sides so it didnt have a sharp edge on it, but I;m sure you can figure it out! :smt023

Nice! I think Perdue did something similar to his car. But not CF.

Did you clear coat over the decal? It will last longer.

Oh, I'm sure I'm not the first for sure... And thanks to you all for the comments!

I am planing to clear it, the next time I'm painting. Most likely the doors for my Toyota truck will be cut in next week so I might do it then.

I was just about to ask if anyone had the means to make these. I'd rock one for sure.

There is your man right there! I'm sure I could make more, but I have been using this stuff to make lots of different things. Also I think Radymarsh? might be able to do these supper easy also. It's just a flat piece of Carbon fiber.

Update... I got stopped by a Ranger on Mt. Rainier a couple weeks ago because of it... Still havent changed it! :smt005

As soon as I saw this write up I started thinking that this might be something people would want. Just made a big order for composite materials for another project. If there is enough left I will play around with making these.

Do I smell a good, cheap, high quality group buy coming?!

I think this could be a good one sense Randy has shown his work already and I'm also thinking that this might be a good precusrer to marketing those deck lids and other parts... :smt023

Just an idea...
