Well I have a sunroof as do a lot of BDGT's and from what I have seen most older WRX's with the premium package wind up haveing them. Sunroofs are heavy and in the highest spot on the car so here's what I'm thinking.

Take out the sunroof; glass, motor ect. And put in a aluminum or carbonfiber roof in its place that would have weather stripping and clamp in like a targa top so you could still take it out in the summer you just wouldn't be able to see through it when it was on.

Has anyone done this or heard about it? How much weight to you think it would save?

Heard of this... never done.. seen it on other makes and models..

We are lucky to have our very own Carbon Fiber fabricator on SLi ( randymarsh303 = viewtopic.php?f=39&t=23440 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=23440) ).. Once hes done the trunks and other little bits I am sure he will jump on this.

I am looking for one myself since welding the roof is a pain and I am really trying to stay away from a roof replacement.

Looks like a member on legacycentral made one for a group buy.. this should be some good info for Randymarsh (tim)

One option is to have a sunroof company replace your motorized sunroof with a manual "pop-up" version. You save around 80lbs in weight.

My old BC needs a new panel or glass for the sunroof, a carbon or aluminium one would be a nice replacement.
