This is my new project car, a 1991 Toyota MR2. Even beat up as it is this is way more fun to drive than my Legacy can ever hope to be . I've wanted one of these car since I was in high school, now I've finally got the time and money for a project. Car's sorta rough, but I picked it up fairly inexpensive with the intention of fixing it up much nicer. First plan for the car is to repair any of the known issues (like the speedo and ebrake) along with doing a full tune up on the engine to prevent any major issues from developing. Clearly the paint is pretty bad, chips everywhere. It looks like it had been painted once previously and whoever did the paint work didn't do a very good job. A few body panels are misaligned or need to be replaced along with the front lip is missing, I plan on doing all the bodywork and painting the car. Regarding paint, one of my father's friend does great paint work (he has built and painted several show mustangs) and has offered to do the paint work on this car for me.

Current Modlist:
• Unknown Headers
• High Flow Catalytic Converter
• Custom Intake (looks like dryer vent :smt011 )

• Unknown Wheels | Not sure what they are but I like them, I may paint them to look a bit nicer.

• Kenwood Headunit
• Unknown Steering Wheel

Known Issues:
• Speedometer isn't working
• Occasional trouble starting
• Bad paint
• Poor condition fender
• Popup headlights not working
• Ebrake cable broke
• Number of body panels poorly aligned

Planned Upgrades:
• Fix all the known issues
• JVC: Exad Arsenel KD-AR5500 (already purchased)
• Shine Auto bodykit
• Cibie H4 headlight conversion
• Zenki JDM taillights
• Full Paint Job: probably keeping it red, might two tone it or add a stripe though
• TRD Shift Knob

what engine? 3S-GTE?

I have loved those cars since they came out! I dream of some day having an SW20 to play with!

I'm assuming this is the non turbo? There are tons of JDM goods for these rides too!

It's got the non turbo: 2.2l 5S-FE.

Not sure if I'm going to get too much in the way of JDM stuff for this, but I might. Still figuring out how I want to build this car, right now I want to focus on repairs.

JDM MR2 motors are pretty cheap.. Always room to expand.. not sure what the overall goal is for this but still cool mini-ferraris they are :-D

The motors are not that bad at all. You can get a JDM Clip from $1700-3000....

But even if you just wanna leave the motor stock, they have so cool cosmetic bits that are hot! I love the JDM tail lights!

Time for an update on this. I hadn't been able to work on this all spring quarter at school. Done now and working so I should have more time and money for it.

One sun visor was missing and the other was broken and hung in my face while driving, really annoying so I replaced them:

Started to look at my audio situation, as I feared it's a total hack job:
Btw, nothing was even screwed in.

Rear 6.5" Jensen speakers were hacked in place, disgusting:

I traded my buddy a pair of 10" subs I wasn't using for a 10" Infinity sub with a matching amp. The Infinity comes with a box that fits perfectly in the MR2 behind the passenger seat:
I'm going to rewire the entire audio system since it's such a hack job now.

I'll be picking up a bunch more parts to replace stuff that's messed up on the car soon.

You should be able to get some pig tails from just about any other early 90's Toyota... I think even trucks, corollas, and camerys are all about the same...

Best part of getting a used car, fixing eveyones crap...

A quick update. Been working on the car more steadily as of late.

Installed a stock front lip as it was missing entirely, really makes the car look better. Also replaced the bad headlight motor so I can now close the headlights. Of course I find out that the other headlight is out of sync, I'm calling it a "lazy eye".

Also I'm pretty sure the alternator is going, I'm looking into options for upgrading it as I'll be running an amp in the future.

Since I'm not able to use the car for a bit I figure it's a good time to strip the interior for the sake of being thorough. Car's over 20 years old so a good cleaning is justified in my mind. Also enables me to look for any other issues while I'm still restoring the car.

So far I found out the driver's door isn't original and confirmed that the stereo install is shoddy, real shoddy:
"Yo dawg, I heard you like speakers so I put a speaker inside your speaker."

Interior as of now, I've got everything I've taken out carefully stored so I don't loose/damage anything. Interior will be going back in after I get most of the repairs I want to do inside done.

Very nice! Glad to see steady progress.

God damn this is like looking at my MR2 project all over again. Mine is nowhere near finished, but it hits at pretty much every single point yours has so far.

Hows that interior looking?

Are you planing to replace the driver fender? I might know where a good one is. Only problem is that it's yellow if I remember right... lol

Love the NZ flag decal on the back. LOL

Nope, I still have it. The alternator went out in the middle of July. I got it fixed in August but then had to return to university for my last semester so the car has mostly been sitting. I do drive it periodically, but the weather's been too cold for me to do any work on it. I'm currently only employed part time right now so my budget is fairly limited.

And I just sold this. I wanted this to be a fun car I could just enjoy driving and tinker with a little bit as I felt like. With all the problems this needs fixed it was just adding to my stress.
