So. Why a Legacy and not another Subaru?

Just curious. Why did you chose a Legacy over an Impreza or Forester (or other)?

I test drove a 96 Impreza before finding my Legacy. I liked it and it started my AWD kick but there were issues. It didn't seem to have the features I wanted and it felt small, really small. Like smaller then my old 92 civic. I found my Legacy a week later and it was perfect. I especially liked the size of it.

So reason I got a legacy, it was a right sized, AWD, perfect featured car for me.

Well after my ex rolled my 98 Impreza, the first subaru that was in my price range turned out to be a 96 Legacy sedan. I purchased a Forester which I really loved, but when I had my first kid, we found the rear facing car seats (that we could afford) would not fit comfortably in the back seat, so we sold that and bought an Outback.

The Forester had much more room than the Impreza in the back, and I imagine if I still had it when we had our daughter, we would have exchanged it for the Outback anyways.

Guess that's the same as your answer, but for different reasons: space.

Mine was my parents car. Simple as that. Would I rather have an Outback Sport? Maybe, but I love the space I have in my Legacy.

I already had an Impreza STI and wanted something more "grown up". So I went looking for an S401. The rest, as they say, is history.

The story of why I went with my Legacy...

My dad got a BL in '06, then my mom got a BL in '08. It was just what I was used to driving by the time I was in the search for my own car. So when I started searching, I had only one requirement. The car had to be manual. I was open to different models of the Legacy, but I really wanted a BL. After awhile of searching, I found a silver '03 BE. I originally didn't like the BE, but the silver looked really good. We test drove one, and it was really beat up. After a little more searching, I found a silver '04. I called, and that had just sold. Finally I found my '03 sitting in Virginia, so I called, and a few days later, I drove down to pick it up.

The main reasons for the Legacy over any other model were that I was familiar with it, it was less common than the WRX (I like that), insurance was cheaper, and it fit my needs.

well when I bought my car I really wanted a 2000 or 01 2.5RS 4-door. I spent months before I was 16 looking for one but one never came up in my price range or close enough to me.
As my 16th birthday neared I decided to broaden my search, I was looking for a subaru, a manual, and a 4door, right around $5000 and it could not be a bugeye. A hood scoop and spoiler were a plus. Eventually my legacy popped up an hour away and the price was right. Went and looked at it, put money down and picked it up next week.

Mine is an interesting story...

I worked for a car lot that did insurance rebuilds mostly being Subaru's Toyota's, and a few others, but we always had Outbacks. I REALLY wanted an Impreza 2.5RS sedan to get as a daily driver so I would stop getting in trouble street racing with my Silvia and something more practical for a guy in his mid 20's to impress the ladys. My boss and I looked for months and they were just super over priced. I one time dated a girl that had one and I liked that they looked like the WRC WRX's. One day I took the first ever 2.5GT Limited that I had seen to inspection. I had never noticed them before and it felt different then an Outback and fell in love with it.

I still own that first 2.5GT I ever drove and fell in love with... I got it because it felt nice to drive, had power everything, 4 doors and I didnt mind sitting in the back seat, the insurance was cheaper then an RS, easy to work on, and it was an Auto and AWD. I had no intention to do up grades to it then, just drive it. I got to drive a customers 02 WRX recently and it was ok, but I still like Legacy's better.

When I replace my 98 Legacy (if ever), it will be for a Turbo Baja (75% Legacy) or a 05+ GT and it will most likely be the GT. I just like the feel of a mid sized car...

I was just looking for anything imported and fun.

I was driving my parents new 02 Oldsmobile alero with a 5spd manual at the end of high school, then they bought an 04 civic si 5 spd.
The alero kicked the civics ass in size, space, feel, and power.

I test drove a bunch of cars but im 6'4 so sadly i went and saw some mazdas and an integra that I couldnt even drive off the lot because i didnt fit in the drivers seat lol

But that was a good sign, for the price range i was looking at I saw a beautiful 97GT BD on a private classifieds listing, I went and saw it. The guy had just bought a new jeep TJ to replace it so thats why he was getting rid of it. when he tossed me the keys and said go have fun, I did. It hauled WAY more than i was used to... mmmm torque.

I went back and gave him a down payment right away. As we were shaking on it out front his place, the next guy coming to see the car rolled up in his riced out civic lol. sucks to be him.

When I brought it home We then had 3 silver cars(good paint and same tone on all)
all were
- nice new condition
- power everything
- all had sunroofs
- all had 16" alloys
- all had similar trunk spoilers
- all 5spd man.
- all had fog lights
it was a sweet fleet in front of the house and the best part was my GT was the nicest
now im on my 3rd legacy and soon i'll be looking for a 2nd car... im thinking 05+ GT as well

I had a GF Impreza in NZ, it was a 2.0l normally aspirated handling machine. It looked great, drove amazing and I took the hills on without a worry. Night races through the canyon? We were doing that years before "touge" was hot.

When I moved to the states, I went looking for another Subaru... but the GF's were hard to find in non-rusty shape and I hated the OBS look. I found a used high mileage (and unbeknownst to me), rusty BD for $4000 from a dealer. Should have paid $2000 for it. I eventually stumbled across the SL-i.net forum, coming from NASIOC and my local club forum (which was all WRX's and RS's anyway) and decided to make SL-i my home. Since then the BD has gone to the scrapper, and the BK has taken it's place in the driveway.

I've considered other cars since then, mainly the WRX wagon, 03-04 Forester, and even a Tribeca. But the price points, cost of running and the fear of a dented door scare me too much.

My car has some rust on it now, and I am back to considering trading it for a Forester to get the ride height back that we need for the kiddos... I cannot stand lifted Legacies though I appreciate their utility.

Though I have only run outbacks I would agree on the lifted part..nice to have, but theres just something about a lowered wagon...

Id say I chose a Legacy over an Impreza is mostly for insurance and also stand out of the crowd of GCs and the typical Subaru WRX. When I was first looking for car I was gravitating towards the old 88 Landcruiser..but then I saw what Sybir did to his OB and from there I was hooked.

That kinda funny you say that because they are not that hard when compared to an S13.. You just have to get passed the intimidation factor of the 4 cams doing a timing belt.

I dont have my Legacy because I dont like other Subaru's, this is just what I prefer. I'm actually trying to talk my mom into selling her 03 Civic and getting a 03-05 Forester. The MPG is not as good, but they are safer and it's about the same size.

I have always liked the legacy because they are the bigger nicer car. I love driving out RS Coupe, but it still feels like riding in a tin can compared to the legacys.

Well I think back on it now and I'm amazed I found a Legacy in general in a used car lot but my Legacy is literally my first car. My best friend who is like a Brother pretty much an now my ex best friend Are car guys and import lovers so thus naturally being friends with them and being with them allot it grew a little on me. I was a noob to the car scene in general when I started looking around for a car so naturally I Just new about some cars but not a hole lot and luckily I grew up with drift fans so it wasn't a Honda I was looking for or into, it was older corollas, AE86's Levin's and and RX-7's i knew about and I knew about Subaru but literally just the name not the cars so yeah. Anyways Its the first month of 09 Its a Monday and I so happen to just skip school and in stead of school that day went around looking for a car with the folks. I Go to about 4 places before I end up at the place where it all began and before I even got to my destination that would be my last in the time of car shopping I literally was close to getting ether a corolla, some Mitsubishi SUV and I even was looking at some Lexus, I don't remember what model I think it could of been an SC but I don't even remember. Anyways I end up at this place called Star Expo or something like that. I look around for a few minutes and what not this and that until I happen to glace at the very front and then noticed the rear of what would be my car with in that next hour. I look at it and am like "hm" and then i see the Subaru bag in the front and that caught my attention even more because I was like wow a Subaru?. I look at it even more and open the door and the first thing that got my attention is the window not having any trim around it, just glass and door. I sit in it and I look around and I slowly started to fall for it and it looks really sporty to me at the time. I take it for a test drive an 45 minutes later after getting back from the drive I buy and put it in my name and its been the Greatest decision I've ever made thus far. When I think about it and how everything is now I literally fill I was meant to have this car. I know I sound funny but I'm serious.

Well of course like any other coloradan car enthusiast subarus are a huge interest but I never thought I could afford one ( thinking the wrx was the only one to bother with).

My first car was a Honda accord and I loved it and still wish I had it. Sold it and purchased a baja bug, worst decision ever ha, I love my dub but at the time it was a bad choice. Had issues with that and bought a 93 prelude vtech si, thing was mean and walked all over all kinds ofAudi, subaru, and other hondas . Unfortunately I was broad sided by a truck and the thing was sort of totalled . I say sort of because the body work was crushed from headlights to tail light . Spent three more months driving that, getting in and out of the passenger side and taping the window up every week.

The hunt was on. For a new car but of course I was broke as hell and already had moved back in with my parents. I was at my wifes work one day and got into a conversation about how I needed a car with her coworker. He says to me " well hell my buddy is giving a car away.." couldn't believe it at all. So we called the guy up and set a time to take a look. Went to his place about a week later and there before me was a white 96 legacy l sedan . It had dents everywhere. Like I mean big dents on every corner panel. Hale damage that should have totaled the car and to top it all off it was filthy. But being AWD and since I was broke I figured what the hell. I hoped in and took off (4eat) this thing was awesome ran well everything power worked and the ac and heat blew strong. Went back to his house and tried to keep my composure about finding my new car . I said how's 500 sound and without hesitation he says "sure". I drove that car for 14 months and put 65,000 miles on until I sold it for 400 to a coworker. DD, also delivered cheese stakes in it for 10 months and the occasional off road camping trip. So I started looking for a new car again...

I wanted a subaru no exceptions but wanted a two door Impreza because of the potential . I searched for months and could not find anything so I started looking at Legacys (since mine had treated me so so well) and could find nothing but outbacks and auto trannys . I really wanted a BE but was a little out of my price range . In the end it came down to a black BD and a green BD . The black one had paint issues and was overpriced. Green one had 130k new HG , new timing belt, new waterpump, new brakes, and came with a 6 month warranty. I pulled the trigger on the green one and started searching for mods. That's when I found you lovely people and realized it was meant to be ! I love my legacy and wouldn't trade it for anything .

I was looking for a Subaru for a winter car on craigslist for months. When I found it I wasnt even going to go look at it cause I thought the price seemed low compared to all the others. My wife talked me into going to look at it and when I got there it was better then I expected. It still needed a few things but nothing really bad and the engine was smooth and the body had no rust. Plus it was my favorite legacy body style which you barely ever see in my area.

I got my '93 from my sister after she got a '99 GT. At the time, I didn't know how great of a car I had just been given, even though my sister was almost certain there wasn't much life left in the '93. Back then, in '09, it was just a car to me and nothing special. Looking back at that now I can't believe I thought that, thinking a BC was just a car. Fast forward to today and theres only one thing that will get me to part witn my car and that would be wrecking it, something I hope never happens. If it does I'll just get another first gen. If anyone is wondering about the '99 GT, well that was sold last year as my sister got an '07 Toyota Tacoma. I miss the '99, it was a blast to drive even though it wasn't as raw and wild as my car.

The lady I bought it from dropped about $600 off the price when I bought it and it was twin turbo. I got the car for $2650 (don't hate) plus the road taxes and inspections. When I was in high school I wanted an Outback, but never had the chance to get one. I have always liked Subaru and enjoyed driving my in-laws 95 Legacy around when I was home on leave. The fact that the interior looks almost brand new helped a lot, too. The service history I found in the glove box was also nice.
