I'm moving to Australia! I love your outback!

Ok. So say, hypothetically, I wanted to marry your car. How legal is that? And how fast can we make it happen?

Really, this thing is beautiful.

Also, your camera work is amazing. What kind of camera is that?

Dear god!!!!!!! Im just shocked! Always loved your car, but damn has it come along!!!!!!!!! This is the epitome of all Outbacks!!!!

This is the epitome of all Outbacks!!!!

That's an understatement if I've ever heard one.

I'm going to go ahead and just place this in my list of favorite Subarus. You get a nice warm spot next to Yamazaki's S401.

As everyone else has said, your car looks great! I like that 2 tone color combination as well.

From the photos, it looks like you like to go offroading a lot. If that's the case then I don't think you would like it lowered. It would look great lowered, but say goodbye to any extreme offroading. I look at your car and say it's already lifted, to outback height. It looks like it gets the job done on the trails, so I say keep it the same height!

May be because it is an outback... :P

Thanks for the kind comments gents :smt023 I'm real happy with how the car has turned out. It was always my intention to keep it fit for purpose and retain a factory look to it.

Mr Garrety, not sure you'd want to marry my car right now. All the off-roading has taken its toll on the front and rear bumpers and they are desperate for replacement. Its been worth it though!

Those first couple of pictures were done by a fellow club member of mine using a big f**k of a SLR camera. Not sure what it is though.

Thanks to the glory of EXIF, I can tell that is was a Nikon D90 with a 18mm lens, manual exposure set at 8 sec, f/14, ISO 100 with a focus at 3.2m, with a depth of field from about 85cm to infinity (on the particular picture I used). Shot February 16, 2012.

The interior shots gave me this info:
Canon EOS 40D with a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens shot at 17 mm, auto exposure, 1/6 sec, f/4, ISO 800, shot August 13, 2011.

Creepy, right?

But anyway, I'm glad she actually gets used, and isn't driven around just for show. Subaru's are for having fun. And staying on the road when it's snowing.

Hello everyone,

Yet another update for project Outback:

This week it got a second lift. I went with a 1"inch body lift in the form of Subtle Solutions spacers. The previous lift was a spring lift only. Together, I've now got some really decent ground clearance both under the car and now also under the body as well (bumpers, side skirts etc). Much better approach & departure angles, though the Outback's nose is still a gigantic shovel.

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4784/img0481zw.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3888/img0484jo.jpg
http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/1859/img0483k.jpg

As you can see - the front is sitting higher than the rear. I've just ordered a set of 3/8" inch Saggy Butt Spacers which should rectify that by lifting the rear end up.

What you cannot see is that the front tyres are running positive camber (wheels pointing inwards?)....which is not very positive for me with regards to tyre wear. Once the rear spacers go in this week, I'll get the wheels aligned and see how it is then. If not, any solutions?

I took it for a bit of a test to some forestry tracks and I'm pretty damn impressed!

The route didn't go quite to plan. I was aiming to go down some steep tracks to the famous Coxs River (4WD only). But due to extremely heavy winds, it wasn't long before I came across my first of what would have been many fallen trees across the track. So I was forced to turn around (actually had to reverse done a steep hill...GNARLY!) and make alternate plans.

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7282/img0491gy.jpg

Ended up crossing to the other side of the Highway to the Western side of the historic Newnes Plateau, which is basically a massive 4WD playground.

http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/1387/img0497oo.jpg

Here is a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPcKL6M9gfY

^As always, video does no justice whatsoever to hills and inclines.

These hills were hard enough to walk up let alone drive! It took me around 2-attempts but I got up after getting a feel for things. The all-terrain tyres were f**king brilliant! The forest is covered in sharp shale rocks and you can't stop half way up a hill so you gotta keep the boot into it. After my confidence grew, I realised what they were capable of so I didn't mind spinning the tyres where necessary.

I did cheat however. For once in my life, I actually used the VDC system. Its mostly a hindrance off-road. But at low speeds crawling up steep rocky hills, it came into its element. You can feel it vectoring torque from one corner to another so as to keep the car heading in the direction of the steering inputs. Very impressive, though no substitute for a proper diff locker system when the going gets tough.

Most of the day was spent at Newnes which looks to have had some track maintainence recently so it was in fairly good condition making going easy. I drove through one of the famous "Lost City" junctions. Absolutely incredible place. Rock formations ("pagodas") millions of years old. Lots of Aboriginal significance and historic importance going back to the Gold Rush era. But I won't go into a history lesson now...

I also put together a video compiling footage from before the lift kit with some sandy river crossings and some other footage as well:

Will update this thread when I get the spacers :)

If the top of the wheels are further in than the botom you have negative camber, if the top is further out than the botom you got positive camber.

If and when i get outback i'm doing the same thing.

How high is it at the lowest point now?
Looks like it has more clearance than the Subaru XV (220mm) Stock Outback is around 200/210mm (i suck at converting to and from metric)

I'm going to remeasure it after I get the new spacers this week.

But clearence should be around 225mm at the diff. So yes, a bit more than an XV...

Its a factory option. Do a Google Image search of "subaru dual console box" and you will see they have one for pretty much every model, so yes it is model specific (ie; BH/BE).

I'm having a hard time finding them. Maybe it was available it Australia and Japan only? I can get one new from Japan for about $138 (US) before shipping, but that is the only option I'm finding.

Actually, now that I look at it, that is only for the BL and BP, '04+. The same option we have over here.

They're an item sold in European and Australian markets. Can be ordered through Subaru here in Aus but cost an arm and a leg. Lucky I got mine from a private seller!

I recently got a 2.5"inch cat back exhaust to go with my existing Varex muffler. Bee's dick more performance. Still got that lovely H6 sound!

The rear bar has been flapping about since 2011. Finally it got bad enough for me to consider replacing it:

Also the front bar succumbed to damage after taking a knock.
