Hello all,

just curious if anyone has tried this ----> http://www.ebay.com/itm/380305907393?item=380305907393&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:eRTM:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr

I know its a cheapie, but it looks exactly the same as some of the higher dollar short shifters.

At least try for the b&m knockoff, they're a little better quality.

Not sure which one you mean. There are a few knockoffs. The one I posted is pretty similar to the Kartboy and sti shifter, so much so that I cant see any difference visually and just cant see why it costs an extra 100 dollars?

Kartboy ----> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kartboy-Short-Shifter-02-07-Subaru-WRX-5-speed-/170803329578?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c4abfa2a

Just by looking at the two product pictures, they are made from different materials; likely the cheaper version uses a cheap kind of steel. Kartboy probably uses a higher grade steel; also, they were the original designers (afaik) so they can retain that concept of idealism of quality. Much like people value OEM/factory parts over aftermarket/knockoff brands.

The B&M shifter is a knock-off from B&M. They cost ~$30 on ebay, and authentic B&M- $130.
Am I suggesting there is no different? Absolutely not, but the difference seem minor enough NOT to justify the extra $100.

Here's what I was suggesting you purchase instead:

I have this shifter in my car and it works quite well. Also, if you wrap the center bearing with electricians tape (or lithium grease) it removes the obnoxious rattle that will eventually pop-up.

You guys have to understand that when a product is made its not just draw it up and have a part made. It takes months of research and development and several prototypes. Quality control is huge with a small company like Kartboy. Hi grade materials and finish are used. Also they are made in smaller batches. KNOCKOFFS are cheap crap copied (not to the T, specs are off) that's why alot of time like the headers and stuff don't fit perfectly. These ebay companies take measurements, no R&D, use cheap materials, cheap finish and a non existent quality control and they MASS produce. Cheap chinese knock off parts isn't the way to go. In the end it's all inferior products. The only time I get stuff like this for my car is when there's not a more quality part out there. There's a lot more that goes into make parts than design, material and ship.

Plus you're supporting better jobs by going with the name brand in this instance.

I have heard of some of those cheap short throws breaking at the welds with the cheap steel and crappy welding.

They do, my nephew broke one in his Civic.

Ended up going with the Torque Solutions S/S. Was reasonably priced and works a treat. Super strong, would have to be after the pounding I gave it to get it into the cup again.
