Hey guys, I want a short shifter for my 1998 Legacy GT Automatic. I think I could really benefit from a short shifter in my car! CD's would be easier to change when it's in park and also I just think it would be faster!

Any ideas? I really want it to be titanium and carbon fiber!

Short shifters are for manual transmissions, their purpose it to reduce lever travel at the expense of added effort. If what you want is a shift knob, just check eBay, autozone, etc.

Well, I've never seen anything being sold as a unit, but here is the exploded diagram of the auto stick internals:

#15 is the shaft the releases the shifter when you push the button
#16 is what the shifter knob/handle sits on top of

So you'd probably be looking at cutting both of those shorter and putting an aftermarket knob of some kind on there.
