99 Legacy wagon L, non turbo 2.2, automatic 178k

I just got this car a few weeks ago as a dd to and from work. The car runs good and has a maintains records from the first owner.

So the other day i pushed the car a bit hard, since i had to pass up a few trucks. Nothing overboard like RPM's at 6k or 7k. Once off the pedal a few seconds later i see smoke coming out the car :smt012 . Made it home... checked engine, found atf drip on the exhaust. cleaned up area to see where its leaking from. Drove it, nothing...drove it again and drove it normal to and from work... no leak. Took the car to church for the first time, sort of an uphill 5 mins worth, and by the time i park it was smoking again wtf :smt017 Did not smoke on the way home, i knew it wouldn’t from last time. I guess when driven over certain RPMs it leaks and drips on the exhaust? :smt024 did some searching and found nothing... i will post up pictures later from where the ATF leak area is at.

Any one come across this?

Ok sofar I found out from searching was.... presure plate, over fill of oil, over heating/tans oil cooler, pan gasket, power steering hose...

It looks like its dripping from two little tubes on top.. Like an over flow exit hoses?
But then again I could be wrong.

No pictures yet... Tomorrow I will its my day off lol

Looks to be a rear main?

Those look like the hardlines that go to the radiator. Are they screwed in directly to the tranny or is there a rubber section?

That's the juncture between the automatic transmission and the front differential. It could very well be gear oil from the front diff that's leaking, too.

Good point Mark. So OP, what color is it, and how would you describe the smell? Is it ATF for sure? C

they are just rubber tubes connected to some nipple... no claps of any sort. just bent/curved downward.

ATF fluid smells sweet. When its burnt it smells like burnt sweetness

Gear oil smells like arm pits and rotting flesh..

Are you sure its not the front diff leaking?

Have you tried to flush the transmission and check for leaks?
