the chassis and transmission have around 250k miles, but the engine is right at 47k miles :] she desperately needs new shoes, lol.

it started life as 95 impreza L and now has a few tasteful mods and a swap.

Lookin real good! I had a 98 Impreza 4 door as my first subie, same color combo as yours. Lots of fun learning about modding subies on that one. :)

The thing that blew me away was how easy it was to change the oil. Love this car but I miss my bd. Cannot wait to get another.

Huge thanks to garrison for hooking us up with some 02 wrx wheels with some tires.

On the way there the sidewall inside the front drivers tire went in a couple places...

the car also looks a billion times better!

Before (now you see why I was desperate):

Finally new shoes! Also used some brake dust cleaner and found that the wheels are not anywhere near as bad shape as we thought.

Here is one clean and the other after a soak

Yeah. A good thorough cleaning can change the way a car(wheels in this case) look entirely

Very cool. I put my switch for my fog lights in the center console where there was a slot for coins. I love it when the switches in a car look clean

Couple things need some love on the car :-(

Header is coming shortly, CV boot on the front left is busted, steering boot is busted, leaky power steering pump, leaky front main seal. :-(

If you're going to drop the rack, I heavily suggest grabbing some Whiteline bushings to replace you 250k mile-old stockers. You'll notice a HUGE difference in steering response.

pretty much what i was thinking about haha.

am i going to have to replace the whole rack or what? (same for the axle?)

Garrison

Axle - most likely, yes.

Rack - all depends on what's leaking. I've been through 2 racks and 3 pumps and the setup is leaking (again). *grumble grumble*

Is that on the rack itself or just the tie rod boot?

Looks like its the tie rod boot.

The power steering pump leaks like crazy

That's at the bottom where it goes horizontal into the tie rod if I'm saying that right.

Yeah just go to the junk yard and try to find a lower mileage rack-specific (that's the only important bit, the fittings are all unique for some -stupid- reason) PS pump. All impreza's from 95 to 2001 used the same rack so it shouldn't be hard to find.

The bushings are a giant PITA to install with the rack on the car by the way, just so you're prepared.

If it's just the tie rod boot you can inspect the inner tie rod for damage (Move the tie rod in and out if it moves and clunks it's bad). Tie rods are $35 bucks from most auto parts stores, there's no real reason to replace the whole rack just for that one part. :smt023 :P

So the lights stopped working on me so i bit the bullet on new ones...

So they are pretty neat but i hopefully found the problem and something else that idk wtf it is.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/10/ymeharuh-2.jpg

I had fixed this to work before. Then again the other one isnt nearly so bad. No idea why its not working. (lowbeams only - assuming something with the grounding)

Havent messed with extra wiring yet, but i do have most everything i need including new plugs.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/10/hujaqeqe-2.jpg

I have no idea wtf this is. Its all messed up and is in the passenger side wiring for the headlight.

They are in tho and look ok. Gonna add an amber bulb to the corners and such.

Did some more stuff this evening.

Put in a new plug on the passenger headlight, new amber bulbs on the corners, and hooked up the led halos.

Still cannot get the lowbeams working and the passenger isnt working at all (bith hughbeams were fine) out of the blue...it was working and then quit.

Did you check the fuses like I suggested? If you're not getting anything on the wires voltage-wise it could be something simple. Also, have you gone to the junkyard and grabbed an entirely new assembly yet? Cheap and might get you on your way to illumination.

highbeam went out the other night and that was a fuse. all my fuses and relays are good. its got to be a ground somewhere, possibly in the stalk =\

it is a new headlight assembly. we're gonna try to go through it with a fine toothed multimeter comb asap.
