So all it actually does is pushes it stiff against the firewall?

With all the lovely fab work I wish a grinder were used more! But good job

yup, reduces firewall/booster flex, that's it

I don't mean to hurt feelings, but looking at those welds is painful...And what exactly is the flattened out piece of angle iron for? it confuses me.
I still love your initiative to DIY it and find a design that works!

I have to agree with Grayguy here. What's the big piece of metal on the firewall side? Shouldn't it be on the front side to brace it?

I believe that if that were true, you would have found a more constructive way to phrase it.

I copied the grimmspeed design and do not know why the plate is where it is. You're correct though. The opposite side of the brace makes much more sense in retrospect.

OK nevermind I see the difference. The grimmspeed bracket has holes drilled in the rear brace against the strut tower and it doesn't look like you drilled those holes. Better take it off and drill them or it doesn't seem like it would be very effective like that and I'd be worried about stressing the other bolts too much over time.
Looks like r3v_v3ng3 has the proper holes drilled in his.

The strut tower doesn't have holes drilling to allow the mounting of the front plate. I'm going to cut off and swap the bracing towards the front of the strut tower. Should aid the stiffness for sure; as it stands there is 1/8" of flex that I do not like. Will update with newer (better) design.

Updated.
I think this should go without saying, but if you don't like the work being performed please keep your opinions to yourself. I do not care what you think, this is simply a guide illustrating how this project can be done.

This is not necessary, people have opinions, positive and negative. Publicly showing your work, you will get both. As long as nobody is cruel about it, all opinions are welcome here. Take the bad with the good, this forum is a collection of facts and opinions. We don't lose sleep over what another member thinks of our cars or work.

Yes.

Exactly. There is nothing that says I have to keep my work up here, nor contribute to the site. If people can't find something nice to say they should keep their opinions to themselves. Unfortunately the anonymity of the internet seems to have dissolved peoples manners.
Allow me to be clear, I have ZERO problem with someone not liking my work, or thinking it's inferior (ala Reason's post at the beginning of this thread, which you will notice was met with a playful dialogue). I do however have a problem with rudeness and disrespect. I try to contribute to this site as well as I possibly can, and you would be hard pressed to find a post of mine that described anyone else's work as "painful to look at", or anything of the sort. Why the f*ck is common courtesy so difficult to come by for some people? And further more, what is to be accomplished by engaging in such interactions?

Dont take these things personally garrison. If someone told me that they didnt like my orange steeles i wouldn't care. If your happy with it thats all that matters, who cares if someone else doesnt like it.

There should be three threaded holes
Not just two.

Exactly, I have one of the "ugliest" cars here, think I care if someone doesn't like it? Nope, some people can take criticism, some can't, whatever.

Just for the record I wasn't criticizing your work just wondering why you didn't make use of the side of the bracket that grimmspeed bolts down for support.

Ok u guys wanna talk about sh*tty, heres mine. The design isnt great due to lack of material layin around and the welds suck because im am amateur at welding still but its 1/4" steel and makes a night and day difference! And yes theres a support on the far side of the single hole face u cant see

hell i dont care what it looks like as long as i functions and doesn't break, but i think yours looks good!
I think most peoples problem is they buy a 99 dollar harbor freight welder which is not the best machine to learn how to weld on. I was going to buy one to get started with but i figured why not buy a nice machine and have it last a life time. I went with a hobart 190 and its awesome, i got it for 712 shipped to my door off of cyberweld.com i highly recommend this machine to anyone

I just installed the grimmspeed one for GC in my 91 legacy SS and here's a couple pictures of it. Not DIY but for comparison I guess and maybe the 1st gen doesn't have as much flex as the later generations but I noticed no difference in pedal feel or response.
