Keeping it stock

I like my car so much in stock form I think thats how im going to keep it at least 99%. Does anyone else feel the same? Its prob the first car I dont want to mod. It just makes a nice daily driver and I dont want to ruin the nice ride. I been driving my Miata while working on the Legacy and I miss it dearly. I dont know why I ever bought a Miata really its so uncomfortable for me. I think I need to keep the Legacy as a daily and get a BRZ for the fun car to replace the Miata.

It's not a bad idea. For "upgrades" just look at maintaining it and maybe replacing worn out bushings and such.

Same here I just want to maintain it and enjoy it as a daily driver. Replacing most worn parts with factory subaru parts.

The Legacy is a good car obviously, that's why we are all here. Most of us fell in love with it in its stock form. But by all means its not perfect. There's a few things you could do to keep it "stock" but better. Most of us start out that way, then some of us get obsessed and can't stop like a middle aged woman going through a mid life crisis and can't stop with cometic surgery.. But usually our cars are better off for it, unlike the 40 something lady with the fish lips and permanent surprised look on her face.

I couldn't keep with stock as I like to tinker. I decided to stay Subaru OEM (maybe not 95 Legacy) though, especially for longest time.

GT front bumper, rear skirt, hood, mirrors, spoiler added
JDM headlights, side markers, tails
(Old) Headunit (cassette to a 6 disc cd changer) - 02 WRX
Added an underseat subwoofer - 02 WRX
Seats - 03 WRX
Suspension - 03 WRX
Brakes - 03 WRX
-with SS lines
PS pump - 04 RS

Wheels went from 14" steelies to 16" LGT Snowflakes to 16" 6 spoke RSs

I agree somethings do make them better but a lot of times people ruin a car with aftermarket parts. An STI drive-train would be nice but I dont want to sink that much money into it at least yet. I dont want to go with larger rims cause then the price of tires goes up also and I like the look of the snow flakes.

Thats pretty mild with the mostly factory parts so ide be fine with those mods. I think the GT brakes are fine for me though with good rotors and factory pads. I did go with the SS lines though. My tinkering so far has been fixing things that needed repaired when I bought the car.

It is very mild. Lets me tinker and not ruin the car.

Coming from an 95 L legacy...those stock brakes were poop. And I like the GT styling which is why I have been working on making mine look like a GT. Im actually in the process of maybe getting snowflakes back...I miss mine, mine were gold.

You know, I didnt start doing mods till about a year ago and I have had my car for almost 5 years. I just did little things like the 99 woodgrain, a diff skid plate, and a mild sound system.

Now it has...
-JDM GT-B Limited bumper
-JDM headlights
-JDM side markers
-JDM tail lights
-JDM scuff plates
-Modifiyed SUS grill
-H&R springs
and a few more things...

Point being that I originally had no plans to do this much, just drive it! I enjoyed my car in stock form for sure! As soon as the bug hit my like it did with my Silvia, I just started to buy parts. now everything I have done to my car is reversible, as in I can revert it back to stock in a weekend. I still have the stock 2.5, auto, and nothing modded thats can not be changed.

Nothing wrong at all with leaving it stock, sometimes its nice every now and then see a super clean stock one. I remember the compliments I got with mine when it was just stock and it made me feel like I had a good car, but just with driving, but also with looks.

You can add some personal touches like maybe the JDM side markers. Thats cheap, easy and when they are wired functional, but yeah, just because your on this forum does not mean you have to have a turbo charged, dumped on the ground, fully JDMed Legacy. We love every Legacy even down to the bone stock "L" to a Spec B. :smt023 :smt023

Those are vary subtle things you can do and only REAL Legacy nuts will really know... I would say go for it. Toss your old parts in a box and forget about them. Someday you will want a newer car and just swap the old parts back on and sell the JDM ones... I have my stock lights in a box just sitting...

I went for the throat on my wagon and pretty much modded that thing from day one.

Best things to look at modding is suspension and brakes. I don't need to go fast in a straight line, but I love me some corners.

It is fun to go around corners but I got my miata for that.

I cant tell ya how many times this happened with me and my cars! I tossed my BD into a corner thinking I was driving my Silvia and damn near wrecked my car! haha.... (took a corner I used to take with the Silvia at 100+mph and took it with the BD at 85 and the rear slip out and drifted, unintentionally... Scary!)

My strategy is to replace worn parts with BETTER factory Subaru parts. Seats worn out? Replaced them with Impreza seats. Threw a rod - dropped in an EJ257 :D

Stock is alright but I feel that my car is better with a few mods. Ive by no means done anything crazy but all tastefull upgrades that really improve the car and make it more unique and mine. Better sound system, much nicer wheels, upgraded struts and springs, WRX seats, and soon to be tint is most of what Ive done. All simple things that to me make the car much nicer without going over the top. Thats what I would suggest doing, find the "flaws" your car has or just things you wish were better and upgrade. Dont get me wrong I really want to do a 5 speed swap and run a turbo set up, but for now Ive got a nice low mileage reliable car that will last me for years.

I don't really want to take the risk of upgrading something and finding out later that I don't like it. Ofcourse I've had to replace some old parts here and there, but that's it.

there's nothing wrong with keeping it stock, but I, like many other here, feel that there are glaring problems with certain stock parts that can always be improved a little.

It's all about who you are and what you want in a part.

I felt the same about my Legacy for about 3 years... To each there own, but making a car personal, be it wheels, paint, different headlights, or even just a custom set of floor mats makes it different then the other 50,000 Legacy's driving around.

Everything done to my car can be undone in a weekend of hard work! Thats just my 2 cents...

Different headlights and some new paint isnt really moddin tho I still consider that stock. When you going putting poly bushings everywhere, large rims, big brakes, performance clutch, lowering springs with cheap shocks, stuff like that can really change the way the car drives.
