Seat compatibility

Found a local who has a 2002 outback and just upgraded to sti seats, and is selling the old ones for a song. Did search, and what I've found is that they should bolt right in to my 96 legacy. Is that correct?

If WRX seats bolt into a 2nd and 3rd gen legacy, then 3rd gen legacy seats should fit into a 2nd gen.

WRX/STi/GC, etc seats fit into all Legacys.

Thanks guys, that was what I was figuring. I am skipping on the 99 seats that I was going to just canabolize for parts, and actually install these. Bonus is he is only 10 minutes away from me, and the seats are out of his girlfriends 2002 outback (and she's TINY!)

especially since he's only looking for like $50 :-D Now I get to decide between mounting rubber or buying seats.....Seats. I can wait on wheels and tires for a week or so.

Hell if I could get a set of outback seats for 50 bucks Id be all over that. Not at fancy as WRX seats but way better than my seats

Yeah, my drivers seat is completely shot, and it is now hazardous. The tire jockey sliced open his leg on one of the wires that poked through the front of the seat when he got out of my car (sliced up his lower calf) So, yeah, jumping all over those seats.

i actually just did a suspension re-build on my drivers seat. got it back to "not crap".

we did one on a buddy's land cruiser, but the part I need (foam cushion) is like $265 from the dealer. I figure for the price, I would just be better off swapping the seats, plus this one has height adjust for my short (5' nuthin) wife :P

Well, they are in! Only took ~3 hours (including a trip to lowes for some grade 8 hardware) There were 2 bolts that were nice and corroded, and had a helluva time getting them to turn out. Of course, it would have been loads easier with a shot or twelve of PB Blaster, but that's the last thing I want soaking into me carpets.

Long story short: If you are going to upgrade to the next gen seats from a BG there are 2 hiccups. First off, only 4 of the 5 bolts line up, thankfully, it's one per corner. Second has to do with the seat belt receivers. On the stock seats there is abolt welded into the frame of the seat that the receiver fits over and a nut is tightened down. On the newer seats, there is a threaded hole, and no bolt. Hence, the trip to Lowes.

A quick obsevation. If, like me, you have a fat ass, you might want to keep your old seats. These new ones sit me about 6 inches higher, and that's with the height adjustment bottomed out. But they definately hold me in. I had no real latteral movement when I pitched the car sideways @ 40 mph. I do like the seats, just getting used to them.

nope, not the angle :D they are 205-50-15's but I don't care, they are a complete blast.

Back on topic, after a day, I am starting to really like the seats. Have it adjusted "just right" and am really comfy. They are firm, but very supportive. Definately worth the time and effort (and small outlay of funds)

yeah my jdm gda were great but they did sit higher, and being they are back-asswards over there the height adjuster is on the passenger side seat :roll: but the improvement over stock was way worth it.

I have found that the cushion has "crusshed" a little under my prodigious booty, but not that much. I still have to watch my head getting out and *ouch* in to the car. The wife loves how supportive they are compared to the old seats.

Seats look good, but I remember HFS[]Devil having some issues with WRX seats in his BE. The rears were just a hair too wide or something.

Only did the fronts, the rears she kept. And yes, I have heard they are about 2-3 inches too short. I might get some more pics up *sometime* been a little hectic around the house lately.
