Hi all, I have a 1998 liberty(legacy) 2.5. The odometer stopped working randomly during a drive on the highway just as it reached 165,000km. It kicked back to life for about 20 minutes a few days later and now reads 165,009. Has anyone got some ideas on how to fix this? I've checked the black connectors near the transmission (which I assume are speedo/odo sensors/senders) but they seem to be clean and tidy. The speedo and tacho work fine however.

Your odometer is cable driven, check the back of your dash cluster.

?
There's no cables going into the cluster. It's all electronic.
There are a series of gears inside the odometer assembly. A broken tooth or something popped out of alignment can cause this issue.
Here's a pic from the bottom:

The circle is for the one I broke when doing my gauge lighting, that bottom ones are for the trip odometer, the ones above control the regular odometer. If the trip goes out, the odometer still works, FYI.

Was an alignment issue, put them back into place and now it's ticking over again. Thanks for the help!
