View Full Version : Strange Oily substance on airbox?

I opened my hood and noticed a strange oily substance sitting the (red) highlighted area on top of the airbox. It isn't anywhere else but there. When I touched it, it felt like motor oil but is almost too clear and smells like nothing. Also, it has no business being over there and there aren't any oil leaks on the outside of the engine that I can tell.

Question #2: What is the (yellow arrow) line that I pointed out? Is that an A/C line? I have been having no A/C performance (As noted here (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24574)) lately, so I'm wondering if refrigerant would be oily?

I honestly don't have much experience with HFC-134a so I have no idea if that's it, but does anyone have any ideas?

All this talk of red highlighted areas and yellow arrows... is your post missing a photo?

Did you forget to attach a pic? But yes oil used in a/c system is clear or with a green dye.

That should be the a/c line from the receiver dryer to the condenser, so that would explain the green stuff an a/c not working. I beleive 95-96 shared the same part #, then 97-04 they changed it so that line ran next to the engine.

I can't seem to find a problem in the line, which is strange. I'm going to take a closer look today.
