So I am in the market for a new steering wheel for my 98 BD GT and I am having a difficult time getting solid info on fitment. I would like to see what people know as facts and get as much info about different versions as possible in one place. I really like the version 6&7 momo but I would love to be able to use the version 9 STI. So basically info we need is: will wheel fit hub, will airbag plug and play or need rewire, and cruise control. From my research I think I have confirmed the following:
02-03 WRX momo will fit 98+ Legacy totally plug and play. 95-97 Have different air bag plugs
- Cruise control stalk will need to be changed over
Obviously not much but its a start so lets try to compile some good info so I can make a decision and we can help future members do the same.

If we get some solid info on here (especially airbag generations would be nice) I will add it to the threads of note.

Can anyone at least confirm fitment of the version 7. I believe the airbag connectors are somewhat different but can be modified to work. I have seen a few posts about a DIY or something over on ScoobyMods. I personally have been unable to track down any hard information and would really love some if anyone knows anything.

Anyone have updates on this? I picked up an oem '02 wrx momo wheel to put on my '97 Legacy Outback and of course ran into the plug difference issue. I was able to switch the plug over, but still got an "airbag" light. Is this because the charges were a different size for the '95-'97 years compared to the '98+? I have read everything I can find on this and other forums and it seems prospects are pretty bleak for getting it to work on MY'97.
Has anyone successfully swapped the momo wheel onto a '97 w/o getting an "airbag" light? Help! :smt017

Ok so I am still compiling some links to different threads throughout the network of Subaru forums that contains relevant information (maybe it will spark conversation). Did you switch the plug itself (rewire) or did you replace the entire charge? If possible can you take a picture of both plugs and both charges so we have reference material.
Despite what many have said, you need to get the airbag light cleared from the dash. I disconnected a plug while running some speaker wire (dont ask me why) and popped an airbag light. Would not go away until I had a buddy clear the code. Try getting the code cleared and if it comes back on after clearing it that's when you have a problem.
I ordered a version 7 MOMO (red stitching, silver center cap) so we will see if I can get it to fit. If will take pictures of the charges and plugs (98 BD) so that they can be compared to your 97.
There has got to be someone on this forum that has done a wheel switch up. The purpose of this thread is to compile all info. So if you have done a wheel switch on any year or body style please let us know how it went. Also any pictures you have available are always appreciated.

MAKE SURE NO TO CROSS WIRES AND/OR GIVE THE AIRBAG POWER! OR WIRE THEM REVERSED
Just want to make that point clear...
Also, do not use butt connectors. All of them should be able to be re-pined. If needed get the clock spring and I would recommend it anyway... :smt023
I like the thread!

1st generation EDM Legacy RS/GT MOMO steering wheel fits the 90-93 airbagless Legacys perfectly, including the horn and cruise plugs. Had a similar looking momo off an early 90s wrx and while it bolted on just fine, it had non plug-n-play horn connector and no cruise control.

I just found out that the Lancaster 6 steering wheel is IDENTICAL to the Outback H6 (except for the momo logo on airbag). I didn't need a new wheel, just the airbag bit.

yep it is the same as 02-04 wrx usdm, so you can get airbag with either red or yellow momo emblem.

NO! Also after you unplug the negative terminal, step on the brakes for a few seconds to discharge any residual voltage. Be safe, bro.
