hey all,

So about 3 months ago i was in a dark parking lot and i was going about 15mph and hit a curb while turning. the wheel hit the curb but didnt actually go up and over. pass side front by the way. pedal was pulsating every stop, took off wheel and checked abs sensor, completely broken off tip. replaced it with a used one for $10, fixed the problem. recently, i was driving the car harder than usual, took a few turns hard, made the car slide a little, little tire squeal. later on, some turns abs light came on, didnt notice any lack of braking power. checked the sensor anyways, and replaced with another used sensor.

fixed it for a few days and now on right turns, and small potholes, abs light comes on, and for the first 2 full stops, the pedal pulsates, but after that everything is fine. i replaced both front sensors twice now and hasnt fixed anything. my friend suggests the front hub might have something interfering with the abs sensor getting tricked to turn on abs?

i replaced all my brakes, new pads and rotors because mine were bad, but the abs problem doesnt have anything to do with the new brakes being installed.

i hope i explained it clearly. any help or suggestions will be appreciated greatly.
thanks!

Have you check the abs ring on the axle?

check to make sure the sensor isn't loose.

check to make sure the sensor isn't loose.

That was my first thought. Make sure the bolt that holds it in is OK and not loose or stripped. Also make sure the ABS sensor is aimed properly at the tone wheel and not slightly off keel or something that could cause it to be intermittent.

I believe if the tone wheel was damaged, it would manifest itself all the time.

thanks for the replies! I have check both sensors, they look to be okay though. I have been doing alot of research on this and have asked alot of people about what the problem may be. as of right now, im going to take off my rotors, and check the tone ring on the backside of the hub. ill try to see if the ring on the axle is broken or chipped at all. i wish it was as simple as a bad sensor but ive changed them many times so my guess at this point is the ring. when replacing the ring, does the bearing have to be removed? (meaning while everything is taken apart, replace the bearing too?)

Yes, because you have to remove the hub to get at it. Make sure you replace the bearing seals (all 3 of them) too.

Thank goodness they moved the tone wheel to the axle on newer vehicles.

First thing that came to mind... well the one thats bolted tot he hub...

Also, if you wheels bearing is toast and the wheels is cocked slightly it will also make the ABS act odd.

If none of that fix's it, say screw it and pull the fuse and disable them. You dont really even need it on an AWD car anyway.
