"The 2008 Subaru Impreza will target the Volkswagen Golf GTI, according to a report by AutoExpress magazine. The article indicates that a sedan model will no longer be offered, and selection will be limited to three- and five-door hatchbacks. Entry-level models will get a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine with 170 horsepower. A more powerful STi turbocharged model will offer 300 horsepower. According to the report, the car will be quite similar to the Subaru B5-TPH Concept, but with a slightly more typical rear end. The glass hatch, however, remains."

And I think that B5 concept is a testbed for hybrid drivetrain. I don't expect the new Impreza to look like that.

And I certainly don't expect them to introduce a 2.0L N/A powerplant. At least not here.

I honestly don't think this is the 2008 impreza. Unless I'm mistaken, this has been the B-5 concept for a while, and won't be replacing the impreza line.

wow. Way to make the crappy grille design worse. Seriously, at least the 06/07 alfa grille was complimented by some muscular bodywork. That looks pussy. It also looks like a photoshop. We will see.

mark - did you completely miss the fact that those Imprezas are HATCHBACKS?!!! seriously, if subaru makes the impreza a hatchback, i'll be so disappointed...if they want to compete with VW and their GTI they should just create a hatchback platform and not mess around with their money maker

I like hatchbacks. I don't think they should totally abandon the sedan though, that's been a big selling point for them (convenience & performance).

Actually, the real money maker for SOA is the Legacy. Legacy sales have always been higher than Impreza sales.

hey mark - what's the rage in sport compact tuning? the WRX...if they turn it into a hatchback, they're going to lose a lot of people in the process, imo...point being is that they should leave the impreza the way it is, a sedan, and develop a hatchback all of its own...

Well, I dunno about that. I guess people do have a lot of misconceptions & prejudices about hatchbacks, but I don't really think it'll take a lot away from the WRX as long as it's a well built high performance machine. I agree though, they should keep the sedan line.
