Sorry for all the photos, ive just always loved this car and am very excited i was able to find one in such good codition

05-23-2012, 10:31 PM
these body style imprezas(GC??) are one of my favorites. especially when they are turbo swapped.

05-24-2012, 12:02 AM
Man you go through cars like crazy. Glad you keep the forum exciting to read. Keep up the posting!

05-24-2012, 07:09 AM
Always a pleasure reading your builds :) Keep it up!

05-24-2012, 06:29 PM
thanks guys, ya, i wasnt planning on another car, but personal matters are forcing me to sell the fozzie, so i needed something that was equally cool. Nothing cooler then an Aspen white clean body RS lol. More mods to come

05-24-2012, 08:07 PM
Nice, I want that car! A 5-speed and everything. I'm looking forward to watching this thread as you work on it.

05-25-2012, 11:23 AM
Never been a fan of so much clear on cars, so got my hands on amber blinkers
Now i just need amber corners and side markers and ill be happy

05-26-2012, 12:26 PM
White is hands down the best color for this car. I love it.

I don't like amber lights and reflectors so much, but I can understand too much clear being overwhelming.

05-26-2012, 12:55 PM
Ya, it was just to much on white, ordered some black housed clear headliggts and corners, so that should make the front end look a lil more aggressive and the amber will blend nicely for the signals and markers

05-28-2012, 11:12 AM
Woke up this morning and found the alarm siren bracket broke and the siren was filled with water. Time to make a custom bracket.

06-03-2012, 12:47 AM
Clear black housing corners. Headlights go in tomorrow

06-03-2012, 01:43 PM
I love the looks of the GC. Yours is coming along really well.

06-04-2012, 03:41 AM
Headliggts n corners finished

06-05-2012, 10:49 AM
Got gc8 coupe spoiler, needs some paint n repair bit worth it

06-06-2012, 09:59 AM
Spoiler was beat up, so last night got her sanded down and touched up areas with bondo that needed it, today will hit it with primer and start painting

06-06-2012, 04:11 PM
I think that spoiler will definitely look better than the stock one

06-06-2012, 04:22 PM
Ya, the stock sedan is just so low and whimpy looking

06-09-2012, 02:46 PM
Got bored so took wing off until new one is painted

06-12-2012, 11:33 AM
Picked this up last night from my.buddy. 2.5 inch prodrive axleback. Gonna do custom 2.5 inch mid pipe from headers today. Cant wait

06-16-2012, 01:25 PM
Exhaust sounds amazing. Had some fitment issues tho. Had to cut the flange off midpipe and rotate it and reweld, but quick fix and thing bolted right up after thag. Has a nice deep tone. Very happy with prodrive lol

06-16-2012, 06:12 PM
Any sounds clips? I have a oval prodrive axleback only and was wondering a 2.5 midpipe will make a different vs oem bd one. How much does it cost to fix one up?

06-18-2012, 11:15 AM
sound clips dont do justice, 2.5 midpipe is good for airflow, as far as sound, theres a bit of a difference, but UEL headers make the world of difference. If you go to a shop ( at least in ORegon) average price for a pipe to be made is around $100

06-21-2012, 12:43 PM
picked up some PERRIN exhaust hangers to replace my old, soft stock ones. World of difference, exhaust doesnt wobble around anymore. REAL PITA though trying to get the new ones on

06-22-2012, 01:01 PM
Got these in the mail yesterday
Debating if i should leave the sti decals or go all white

06-25-2012, 01:09 PM
touched up some window trim that was peeling/fading this morning. Next step, spoiler

07-06-2012, 12:16 AM
Carbon fiber

07-06-2012, 11:22 AM
those roof vanes in carbon fiber look very good on white cars

07-07-2012, 12:02 PM
Finally installed these

07-09-2012, 03:05 PM

07-09-2012, 10:52 PM
I love the big fog lights but in that bumper, the covers look really good and add that look to them. looks good

07-12-2012, 04:32 PM
ok, so i am starting to plan my swap. Cant make up my mind what i wanna do tho. I have a 2.0 BLOCK, HARNESS, ECU, DP, UP, TMIC, pretty much everything minus heads. If i go this route i plan to build a forged block with eagle rods and pistons, oversized bearings. OR sell what i have and do a 2.5 block with 2.0 heads

07-20-2012, 01:59 PM
got this kit from East Coast and finally got it installed
This was a dealer upgrade for the '01 models only. glad i was able to track one down

08-02-2012, 10:45 AM
After looking for weeks, i found a girl that wanted to trade her amber side markers for my clear ones. These bring the front together and go good with the already amber bumper lights

08-11-2012, 10:37 AM
Got this a few weeks ago and finally decided it was time to install. Its TopSpeed double ajdustable short shifter. Allows you to adjust not only the throw but also the height of the shifter. Pretty cool, first one i have had and i like it.

08-11-2012, 03:43 PM
That is awesome how you can adjust it and that finish on the knob looks really clean

08-11-2012, 07:07 PM
yeah, you can adjust the throw from 0% (stock) to 60%. and the height of the shift knob can go up 2.5 inches above stock for rally or 1.5 inches below stock. pretty sweet

08-12-2012, 10:22 PM
Really liking what you are doing to this car.

08-17-2012, 01:01 AM
link for shifter please

08-17-2012, 10:29 AM
dont have a link, bought it from a shop , but its TopSpeed Double adjustable short shifter, Cobb also makes a double adjustable short shifter as well

08-27-2012, 12:06 PM
getting ready for the dark, wet winter im sure Oregon has in store for us this year. Picked up this light bar from a buddy, stripped down the nasty paint, and will be dipping it in por15 since its got major rust spots, then frewsh coat of paint and im good to go.

08-27-2012, 01:13 PM
I would officially like t introduce everyone to my new toy. 2000 2.5 rs w/ 88k miles, 5 spd. Bought her bone stock.
Current mods are:

JDM GC8 STI Front Lip
JDM GC8 STI Rear Spats
JDM GC8 STI Headlights
JDM GC8 STI Corner lights

Got a cheap hook up on the lights? My USDM glass ones are all chipped, and the STI look is pretty sick with the blacked out housings.

Just a suggestion, but should do this to the rears to balance the black out (this is my car)

08-28-2012, 10:13 AM
thanks for offering, but i already put on JDM tails
not sure if i am a fan of the blacking out, looks good on silver but might be to much on white. ( ignore the decal its not on the car lol)

08-28-2012, 02:09 PM
It works well on the silver, was like that when I got the car and wasn't really sure if I "liked" it at first only cause I'm usually not one for that, but then saw what it looks like stock and was a big fan lol.

So where'd you get the JDM headlights?

08-29-2012, 10:38 AM
yeah, silver cars can pull off the black tails very nicely, white cars it just way to much. Plus i plan to paint match my front lip, sideskitrs, and rear spats....so the only thing black on my car will be the rims and the roof

08-29-2012, 10:28 PM
I have used the vinyl tint(thicker than window tint) on both of my cars and it looks very sexy on my white SVX. But one of the good things about the vinyl tint is it can be removed easily(if you want) and only costs about 10 bucks shipped.

08-30-2012, 10:35 AM
yea, i did vinyl on my 2011 impreza and my 07 forester XT.....i might MIGHT try that on the RS and do what greenspeed has done and tint the clear section, but who knows, this light bar is taking more time then i thought. Last night had to cut and reweld the brackets and also weld on a spacer for mounting, so today means more paint.

09-07-2012, 10:19 AM
over the weekend decided it was time to finish the light bar project. Cut off the 2 hideous brackets on top and welded on a couple custom ones that mount to the liscense plate bracket
this design seems a bit better in my opinion. the bottom brackets bolt to the subframe and the top two new ones keep it from rattleing and bouncing around while driving.
Horrible pic but theres a test fit. Painted it again last night, letting the clear cure and will instal later today maybe

09-10-2012, 10:15 PM
Got the lights mounted
And wired

09-10-2012, 10:25 PM
How did you wire additional fog, added in parallel to existing wires?

09-11-2012, 10:18 AM
have them wired independantly. Ground to chasis, power to battery, and spliced into an accessory wire, Then ran a ground and power wire to switch inside the car. Wiring wasnt to hard, hardest part was finding a hole in the firewall to push the wires threw. I was gonna tap into the factory harness, but figured that would draw to much power runnning 6 lights when i have my fogs on, so i did it this way so i can have my facotry fogs on, or these on, or both if ineeded.

09-17-2012, 05:54 PM
Got bored, new color for winter

09-18-2012, 09:58 AM
Very nice. I like the combination of red, black and white

09-18-2012, 11:08 PM
Yea, the 4pots really stand out now

09-28-2012, 10:39 AM
The time has come for me to start planning my swap. I am at a cross roads tho. I have in my shop a ej20 block, sti rods, acl bearings, sti crank, wrx headers, wrx wiring harness, wrx top mount, wrx dp, and a few other needed parts. All im really missing are heads, turbo, pistons, and a few other random things. Should i use all the parts i have and plan on spending around 2k to get everything needed OR should i scoop up a complete jdm ej20G for 1900 bucks with ecu, harness, turbo back, and tranny

10-09-2012, 10:00 AM
well i finally made up my mind. Rather then trying to hassle with tunning a jdm ecu and then having to deal with emissions, ive decided to just go with the parts i already have. So i ordered up some heads last week and will begin the build as soon as i get them.

10-09-2012, 11:20 AM
Nice car... any plans to swap out the rear spoiler? Something like a trunk lip (M3 style) would look great and balance the rear if it's in black.

Did you plasti-dip the wheels?

10-09-2012, 05:53 PM
i HAD a coupe spoiler but somebody stole it out my buddies back yard, so trying to source another one so i can paint it and instal it. And no i rattle canned the rims, not a fan of the plasti dip especially when they gravel our roads here in a few months.

10-09-2012, 07:35 PM
Looking good neil! can't wait to see it swaped

10-11-2012, 10:31 AM
my heads arrived yesterday. Now to pull the valves and replace them. Then off to the machine shop to get pressure tested and decked

10-17-2012, 11:23 AM
Can't wait to get this started

10-17-2012, 11:45 AM
If you get brand new valves... does it still mean that you will need them ground to seat correctly?

I am in the same position where I just got the heads cleaned and decked and I know I need a "valve job". But if I get the valve spring compressor, new valves, springs, ect... can I just replace all of the components and feel fairly confident that the valves will seat without needing to be ground?

If there is a good chance that they will still need to be ground then I will not waste my time replacing the components as the machine shop doing the valve job would need to remove/replace them anyways.

10-17-2012, 01:24 PM
Um, I always have my machine shop do this for me. I do know the one time I did replace them without Doing the above they did not seat at all and I was out another week replacing them

10-17-2012, 02:10 PM

Then is it recommended to get new valves all together??? I was under the impression that they just clean them and grind both surfaces so they mate perfectly.

Not questioning you... just trying to figure out what I need to do from here.

10-17-2012, 02:43 PM
I always go new, just cuz I'm anal and I like knowing things are new while everything's apart. U can reuse them tho, I've just had bad experience and like to replace em

10-17-2012, 02:44 PM
Got it. You just go with offbrand aftermarket or OEM? It looks like the intake valves are like $12 each and exhaust valves are like 17 each OEM.

10-17-2012, 03:27 PM

10-17-2012, 04:57 PM
In my (general, not just subaru) experience, the intake valves are usually in good usable shape and can be used for the valve job. It's the exhaust valves that usually need replacement.

10-17-2012, 06:44 PM
Got it.

10-22-2012, 01:19 PM
Got bored this weekend so decided to adjust my Hirt shifter and also ditched the headlights and went back to oem with JDM clear corners. Finally adjusted my bulbs so there not pointing up anymore

10-30-2012, 05:22 PM
got bored yesterday, painted my vent flat black, roof is geeting wrapped friday

11-02-2012, 10:18 AM
well, today is the day, after work i am going to my buddies house and getting my roof wrapped in flat black vinyle. Kinda excited to see how it looks, dont see to many gc8's around that are 2 toned

11-02-2012, 08:14 PM
That sounds like it is going to turn out pretty sweet looking!!

11-03-2012, 10:36 AM
ok, finally got my photobucket to work on my iphone again, so here are some pics. !st here is a pic of the black vents before the roof was done.
And here is a pic of the roof after it was wrapped
not the best quality of pic, but you get the idea.

11-04-2012, 12:17 AM
Mud flap time

11-18-2012, 04:46 AM
looks good! My bro and friend both have gc's. It still get mistaken for a civic once in awhile lol

11-24-2012, 10:35 AM
cant wait, my Ganador mirrors should be here mid next week. Thinking about plasti dipping them black to go with my vents and roof, not sure tho, depends on how the paint looks when i get them. Cant wait

11-30-2012, 10:42 AM
Got home from last night and had a wonderful early christmas present from afar. After a little over a month of seeing this things sit in both Japanese Customs and US Customs these finally arrived
Planning on plasti dipping on side in black and installing them to see which looks better. Thinking the black mirrors would tie in with the black roof and rims and lips/skirts but dont wanna go to much. If i dont like the black ill peel of the plasti dip and paint match.

12-01-2012, 04:09 AM
Yeah i think the black mirrors would look good. I always paint my mirrors black, it goes with the windows

12-02-2012, 09:11 PM
Well, decided I liked them black vs white

12-04-2012, 11:52 PM
youre as cool as i am now

12-05-2012, 10:36 AM
cooler, cuz im the color of snow, which is cold, making me cooler, then you, cuz your the color of fire, which is hot, not cool. lol

12-08-2012, 09:39 AM
Those mirrors are a nice touch. Especially in black

12-10-2012, 07:35 PM
Just dynamatted all 4 of my doors ( 2 layer fronts) and my trunk. Operation sub will begin next month. Can't wait to get some more "bump" to go with my already amazing system

12-13-2012, 01:52 PM
New hood scoop for you???

12-13-2012, 06:31 PM
Hell ya, wonder if he ships lol

12-13-2012, 07:08 PM
I can bring it up with me next week in the unlikely event that you were serious.

12-13-2012, 11:44 PM
Awesome, I'll let the guy know......... Jk that's gross

12-14-2012, 09:38 AM
hahaha I figured!

12-17-2012, 10:48 AM
I just put a sub in my car. I love it

12-26-2012, 10:11 AM
Got a good deal on 50 sq ft of fatmat, so decided to instal all over my trunk for Christmas

01-04-2013, 10:31 AM
looks like i finally fixed the leak in my trunk. Had a good 4 inches of standing water almost covering my spare tire few days before xmas when i went to instal the mat. Raplaced my trunk seal and resealed my spoiler and appears the leak has stopped. Carpet is back in and ill start the new year off with a sub and amp

01-11-2013, 05:31 PM
considering going wingless. every RS i see has the 2 door coupe wing and im all about being different. Thoughts

01-11-2013, 05:36 PM
You could get a STI wing.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-98-99-00-01- ... 42&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-98-99-00-01-02-Subaru-Impreza-2-5-Rs-Wrx-Sti-Spoiler-GC8-/181010610754?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2512ba42&vxp=mtr)

01-11-2013, 05:42 PM
^ not a fan of those, and cant afford the real one anyways, which are 500+ shipping.

01-11-2013, 09:58 PM
considering going wingless. every RS i see has the 2 door coupe wing and im all about being different. Thoughts

Certain cars look astonishing without the wings. And the RS is one of them. The wing changes the flowing lines of the trunk and looks a little weird I think. This goes for most of the WRX's as well. The wings do not flow with the design of the body. So chalk my up for a wingless vote.

01-12-2013, 09:46 AM
^ not a fan of those, and cant afford the real one anyways, which are 500+ shipping.

Yeah, it was just a thought. I just don't like the sedan RS spoiler. It looks like an after thought.

01-23-2013, 10:13 AM
decided to go with the 01 coupe wing. My buddy at a shop had a car come in exact paint code as mine. Said he had enough paint left over to do the spoiler, so hopefully by friday it will be on.

01-30-2013, 10:57 AM
Painted and ready to be installed tonight after work

01-31-2013, 12:25 AM
Finally on and looks amazing

01-31-2013, 08:54 AM
I don't understand why the sedan didn't just come with that spoiler from the factory. It is 1000x better.

01-31-2013, 09:55 AM
I know right lol

02-04-2013, 01:21 PM
Well the spoiler is back off, someone tried to steal it and busted 3 of the 4 studs off, so replacing them and fixing a stress crack, no fun

02-04-2013, 01:25 PM
Stealing spoilers?? What the hell has this world come to?

02-04-2013, 02:34 PM
I know right, it already got stolen once an I foud it a month later down the street, then came outside te other night and saw it was wobbly and my trunk was scuffed up, luckily trunk buffed out and all the deep gouges are hidden by spoiler

02-24-2013, 09:23 AM
Installed sub n amp last night, bumps harder then I expected. I'll post pics later

02-26-2013, 10:31 PM
I was suprised with how much my sub and amp bump even though mine is only 150 watts.....

02-27-2013, 05:50 PM
You should weld the spoiler right to the trunk

02-28-2013, 10:09 AM
well, right now im going to weld 2 holes shut, 1 on each side where the studs were hack sawed off ( less water leak) and then imma epoxy the hell outta the spoiler and wrnch down the 2 new studs i reinstalled ( used to be plastic tabs, replaced with bolts). Hopefully this works, if not, then looks like ill be welding all the holes closed and going wingless

03-05-2013, 10:39 AM
reinstalled my spoiler AGAIN yesterday. replaced 2 of the 4 studs, 3m tape, and 2 tubes of epoxy, dont think its gonna get ripped off anytime soon

03-10-2013, 11:12 PM
Got some stickers for a cruise
Good turn out, over 100 local subi drivers
After the cruise hit up my rents , found some scraps and made this

03-11-2013, 12:06 PM
Got this in the mail. CF cluster kit, goes great with my OEM trim kit

Random pic if my car from the cruise

03-11-2013, 12:20 PM
Another pic from the cruise at the rest stop

03-12-2013, 04:10 PM
me and my buddies leggy at the cruise

03-12-2013, 11:59 PM
Lil photo swag with me and my buddies 00 RS

03-22-2013, 04:05 PM
Finished my trunk project, cut all the prices and leveled everything out. Had to raise the trunk floor about 1.8 inches to be completely level.

Figured since I now have less trunk space I'll throw my Yakima rack on, completely changed the look but now I can haul my bike around again

04-09-2013, 02:41 PM
Buddy wanted to take a photo of my car, turned out good I think

04-10-2013, 10:41 AM
got tired of the panda look. Removed the roof vinyle, sanded down the mirrors and gonna paint match them white ( primer right now) Took off all the window stickers ( minus my club) and am debating on either new rims or coilovers.

04-28-2013, 10:50 AM
Couldn't pass this up, live street art

05-08-2013, 03:40 PM
might be selling my car, my girl and i are looking for a house and i could use the extra cash for a down payment and to finish paying off the car, if anyone is interested lemme know. Asking $7500 as is with everything thats on it. in no rush to sell but if someone was seirous id prolly sell.

05-09-2013, 12:44 AM
Moving on to bigger and better things. Wish I had the money, your cars are always mod to perfection. Good Luck with the sale!

05-14-2013, 07:59 PM
Well I've had a ton of people interested in the RS, kinda makes me sad but also tells me people like what I have done to it

05-19-2013, 01:36 PM
Might be sellin RS today

05-21-2013, 02:18 PM
selling the RS tomorrow, hopefully will be back into a legacy Friday!!! coming home

05-21-2013, 08:27 PM
Did the original buyer back out or just had to reschedule?

05-21-2013, 10:20 PM
Rescheduled, he lives 2 hours away and his ride backed out last minute

05-22-2013, 09:26 PM
Well car is gone, got more $ then I was asking for, buyer was cool and excited for his 1st Subaru, I almost cried. Time for Subaru number 11
