Engine rear main seal

Question I've heard of people using a assortment of pvc pipes to have it sit flush it seems my 3" cleanout cap is a tad too small and I think a 4" one would be too big, has anyone ever put the seal in this way?

I used a rubber mallet and worked it in, then finished it with a 2x4 placed the edge on the seal and work it in(..thats what she said)

well I heard maybe a 4" pvc pipe should work I have to check going to home depot today

I held the old seal against the new seal and tapped it in

[1-3-2-4]

the last seal I put in I don't think went in even so it leaks like crazy.. My transmssion is almost out so I'm going to have a look at it.
