After reading through seemingly endless posts on multiple forums about the appropriate gear oil for my car I am still unsure as to which is the best for me. It seems to be fairly split and a bitter fight between people talking about Redline 75w90 GL5 vs GL4. Since I don't TOTALLY understand the difference I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction without causing a massive fight ;)
I've also read different things about just going to a Subaru dealership and getting OEM stuff/asking them for the best recommendation.
Thanks!!!

Subaru's own oils work fantastic. I use them as well as Redline Shockproof Lightweight in my Subarus.
If you want to endlessly research this topic, check out BITOG (bobistheoilguy.com) and spend hours reading people debate, but it sounds like you already have.

Says gl4 or gl4/5 (not gl5) where gl4 is called for.

OEM works great. Unless you're really beating on the car, then stick with OEM - particularly Extra-S.

Seriously, Extra-S works great.
