My search for replacement exhaust parts is exhausting. Trying to find a cheap Cat for my 98 Legacy L. Mechanic told me not to use aftermarket, but find part-outs or buy direct from Subaru. I've found plenty of turbo part-outs... could I use that Cat?

I'll probably have to get a shop to build me a custom manifold, so mounting a turbo cat shouldn't be an issue... more worried about computer/ sensor issues.

If you cut it up then yes..

Cats are cats.. they scrub emissions. As long as you have your pre and post o2 sensor all should be fine and dandy.

Save yourself some grief and get it done right and use the right parts. That wont be an upgrade. Have you even looked of Craigs List for one? I sold one to another member on here for $70... Cats last a long time, unless your burning oil or have CEL's on...

I've seen plenty on Craigslist, but pretty much all from turbos, thus my question.

I found a shop nearby that can sell me the single port header and cat together for 250. Is that worth it? Seems a little bit steep

Well, cats are like 100 at the low end for one, so thats not that bad if it includes a header
