93' Legacy Engine: Zero Tolerance?

I just recently found a 93' Legacy Wagon that i'm looking to buy. However, the owner said that the timing belt slipped off. I know what that entails, but i heard that if the engine is NOT a zero tolerance, there is a pretty good chance that the engine is fine and all it needs is a new belt and a tune up.

I want to know what you guys think about this. Is it likely that engine will need new valves etc? or is there a good chance its still in pretty good shape?

(i don't have any info on mileage or transmission, but the the body is in good shape and the owner is selling for a dirt cheap price. and i figured if it was a p.o.s, i could just salvage what good parts are on it, and scrap the rest.))

The 93 EJ22 is a non interferance engine. There is still a chance of damage happening when a belt slips off, but it is unlikely. If you're interested in the car, I'd recommend having a mechanic check it out for engine and other problems.

If it's not idling or running properly, it's possible that the timing just wasn't set back right, but also possible there is damage. Have a mechanic experienced with Subaru motors look at it.
