Hey Id like to know witch stock radio heads or maybe I should say CD players that would be able to play burnt CD's MP3 style and all? Id love to add one back into my car since they look so badass when being in a car there suppose to be in. I am going to add a screen into my car eventually but that probably wont happen for a good while so I would like to do this until then. I also would like it to still be black as well btw.

Hmm. Good question. I know the 2nd gen impreza's through 05 did not (no experience with 06-07).
according to this ad (pretty sure that he means 08-09, not 07-09), this impreza headunit does. But it would sure be a PIA fitting it in yours, lol. http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/ele/3034541642.html
My opinion is to check out craigslist for a $40 or so aftermarket deal. also to keep the wiring clean, (assuming your factory wiring is uncut), you should get a Scosche wiring harness that plugs into your factory wiring and has industry standard wire colors.

I have a aftermarket random radio head I want the stock ones for the clean stock look as well as the nostalgic factor of it and also because its cheaper then getting a screen.

Hmmm, the tough question is whether the newer (08+) stereos have the same plug as the older ones do. Those newer stereos are sure to have the features you want, but they're all custom fit to the dash jobs, and won't drop into a single DIN slot like you have. Your best bet would be an 06-07 Impreza unit and seeing if it has the MP3 playback. I know the 05+ Legacy units were all fitted to the dash and not single DIN.

I have had both an 06 and an 02 Headunit in my car....As long as the unit is not nav and is in a standard DIN shape, it'll fit and work. 100% plug and play.
The 02 one looks well in 2nd gens (like its from the same time frame). The 06 looked out of place.

08+ definitely DOES NOT use the same plug, harness, bracket, etc. Nada. Nothing carries over.
Now, that being said, you could do the leg work and make the swap work- it's just not going to be easy.

This is the one from an 02. You should be able to find one cheap on NASIOC.

Its not a big deal to me about the mp3 cds anymore. Infact I don't think mine are MP3 anyways.

I am running a 04' WRX 6-disc (dual din) which is the same as the BE/BH legacy 6-disc dual din but its black instead of silver.
There is a write up on SLi I think that covers AUX jack wiring diagram for the stock harness :-D

If you are asking for the harness confirmation then there is no point. Its plug n play. If you are asking for the AUX wiring diagram the give me some time.. i have no idea where it is.

The actual stereo will plug-n-play for sure, but this link has the Aux mod in it too.
To answer your original question, it looks like the 2007 STi stereo is MP3/WMA compatible.

Okay cool and yeah I'd expect the newer ones to have all that but no I was asking about the radios them self's to answer anybody else's thoughts. I'd be down for this one but I want it it to be black to match everything that's black in the center console and dash witch is the reasons why I'm going with the 02 raido.
Btw though my burnt CD's I think aren't mp3 CD's but the songs on them may be considered an mp3 file so would that still work?

The one in the top, the all black one, is the one I got from an 02 WRX. I know the black and silver one was from a forester.

I don't know what to say chuck. Just going by my findings around me. I got my all black one from an 02 WRX that I also got the underseat subwoofer from, calipers and brackets. Before I got it I almost got one that was from a forester with tan interior that had the black and silver model.

no arguments or disagreements. just stating what I have had my hands on and from which vehicles..
Sometimes these items are dealer optional or owner swapped.
Either way.. The black and silver units I posted are 100% functionally identical

If you tell your CD burning program to "burn you a CD" then it will have converted the MP3 files you have stored on your computer back to "CD" format and then put it on the disc. CD audio & MP3 are not the same file types, and a non-MP3 reading CD player wouldn't read an MP3 file.
CD files also take up a lot more space than MP3 files. If you have 80ish minutes of music and the disc is full, it's "CD audio" format. MP3 files would fit hours and hours of music (depending on bitrate) on a single CD disc.

With my 02 headunit I used a cassette adapter and played music off my iPhone.
My current Pioneer head unit has all of its media (music, pics, videos) on an 8GB SD card. I love not needing to burn CDs anymore.

Cool yeah I want to get a screen in my car but thats probably not going to happen for a long time, plus I don't even have a smart phone so I couldn't even use the screen the way I want to anyways witch is to play pandora in my car. I also don't have an ipod anymore so I've been rolling old school with CD's.
