I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. I never done a tie rod yet. I went to Subaru to get an inner tie rod, the retard gave me the outer (I guess that makes me a retard too since I didn't pick up on that). Has anyone ever did this? The inner tie rod looks difficult. One end the outer tie rod screws into it. The other side is a "socket". It is loose in this socket/joint. I will get the right part(s) and complete this. In the illustration the gave me #1 inner (which is the outer) but I asked for #2.

Any tips on removing it from the sock and replacing the inner would help me out thanks.

I just got the inner tie rod. Looks pretty damn easy.

i've never done one, but i'm sure you'll have to have it aligned afterwards

That's why I haven't had it aligned after the drop. Nobody will do it with the tie rod like that.

I've done a few. They're MUCH easier with the right tool. Lisle makes an inner tie rod tool. Most of it is straight-forward. Count the turns when you remove the outer tie rod from the inner. When re-installing the outer to the new inner, put it back on the same number of turns, so the alignment is still close enough to get you to the alignment shop.

This is the tool which greatly helps removal/install. If ya were closer, I'd loan ya mine.

You get this replaced yet? I'm interested in how hard it's going to be, as I need to do it on both sides

ivwarrior has the right idea.if your near fishkill NY i have the tool you can borrow.definitly remember to count the threads between the inner and outer tie rods as long as the new inner is the same lenght as the old.that should put you back to close to where you started.also remember to put the boot back on before you put the outer tie rod back on (ive ran into that situation before)

vice grips and a leverage pipe have also been known to work other then the inner tie rod tool (i dont know if there will be enough room to do this though)

I had Anchor Subaru(North Smithfield RI) do it and they screwed me again. "Oh yea the car is fine no problems, went smooth" I drive the car and the same noise coming from the front. They said they drove it and it was fine. "Bring it in so we can take a look at it". I told them to go fcuk themselves. They aren't touching my car again. I'll take the lost on the tie rod job.

But yea John They did one side and I'm pretty sure the other side needs to be done. My car is going in for some "work" in July, they will replace the other tie rod and both outers. I might even have my ball joints done for shits and giggles.
