Our local Subie club hit the strip yesterday to run the 1/4 mile. And for the record no I did not run. I'm more into Solo II and with a stock motor I don't need to run the 1/4 to prove my car is slow :D Most of the guys run WRX's and a few have old school Impreza's with various swaps.

Now I always figured a WRX powered Legacy would pull mid to high 14's....

One of the guys Richard runs a 96 Outback with 04 WRX swap. His only mod is an STi turbo and there's no tuning. The car ran consistent high 13's with 13.7 as his quickest. On his worst run he had boost spike and let it roll and still pulled a 15.1 , probably still would have beaten my GT Wagon. I nearly bought his car before I bought mine, makes me want to do the swap even sooner !!

The quickest of our group was Rock with his '04 STi with Stage II Cob tuning. He ran a 12.9 @104mph. I would seriously get an STi swap if they didn't eat so much fuel as this is my daily driver.

that is a sexy car. Doesn't seem all that quick when he launched? But its not in the visuals, its in the numbers.

Most early Legacys are lighter than WRXs, so yes, they should be darn quick.

i cannot understand how people do swaps like it's changing a set of tyres.

Its like anything, have someone show you and do it enough times.... you'll become proficient at it. What I cannot understand is how shops in the US get away with charging $5-8K just for the labour. Its such a ripoff. The guys here charge about $2k Canadian max and its all first rate work.

My swap skills involve swapping air filters :D

know anyone near you?

TO is about a 3.5 hour drive for me... so it might be worth it to just have it done there.

It's ironic for me really, because coming from NZ I'm used to seeing Legacies pull down high 12s in the 1/4, and I've seen an 89 RS break 10s.

It's not a quick 1/4 miles for me anymore unless it's in 12.5 or less.
I'm ruined, really.

Yes I do, Richard the owner of the white Outback has completed many swaps. He works with Rocky and there's another guy with a shop by the name of Guido who is proficient with wiring. Guido has an '98 GT sedan with hybrid 2.5 / WRX swap, 04 Impreza TS with full STi V8 swap and a '98 RS with WRX swap. All these guys are local to me and have an excellent reputation with our Subaru club. I can think of at least 8 cars they've done swaps on around here.

FYI - I'm in Ottawa (their shops are here) which is about 3 hours from Toronto. Its probably closer to you since you have to drive around the lake to Toronto. As a benchmark , Syracuse is about 3-4 hour drive from my house.

Let's say roughly $5k out the door. You'd have to speak to them to get an official quote. It really depends on what you call a complete swap and what motor you go with. I'm going by what other club members are tellling me and they don't tend to BS. Shoot me an email to alexxi@magma.ca if you need contact details......
