Halogen Lights

I am thinking about buying halogen headlights. I have been looking around online, but i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions or experience with them on their legacy and where the best place is to purchase them. I have never bought or installed these headlights and i was wondering if its a complicated installation procedure or not. Thank you.

Halogen? That's the standard on our cars. You mean HID?

If you do mean HID, it's not worth it without projector lenses, the standard lenses cannot focus the light properly and scatter the light everywhere (in the eyes of other drivers, etc).

those are just normal bulbs man. well, i know not incandescents, but i mean, that's normal fare for our cars.

no cars use incandecent headlights these days.

btw, rallylights.com or danielsternlighting.com for your next bulb purchse! Much cheaper than stores, and you can find yellow bulbs (if thats your gig). Either way, the bulbs are about 50% cheaper, and you're supporting sites who support tuners/racers.

Better off with a foglight ->driving light conversion IMHO. More subtle, and less work as the lights are seperate units.

I'd love to see someone retrofit some BMW lights or something from an Audi.
I bet it would work, the hood line might need to be altered, and some custom brackets made up.

Not true AT ALL. For one it has little to do with the lense itself, but the housing and how it is configured. I have a Kaixen 6500K kit on my non-projector headlamps and they are amazing. Beam pattern is very similar to that of the halogen H4 bulbs. Plus I got mine through NASIOC for $300, which is much cheaper than most retailers, not to mention it was completely plug & play. One of the best purchases I've made for my car aside from boost.

So many people talk down on HID but notice that the people that speak negatively of them don't have HID or experience with HID for that matter. I too was sceptical having heard many bad things but once I installed them I learned that the things I had heard were false :wink:

Any quality H4 HID kit will have cut-offs built into the bulb seat so the light isn't produced in the wrong areas. Here is an example from the NASIOC thread:

to be honest, that looks a bit different from most kits I've ever seen. And what knowledge I have, has come from BAC5.2, who has had experiences with all sorts of cars, and knows his stuff.

There is nothing reflective about a lense. The lense is design to refract light, which is different. They built the lenses like this because the output of halogens is not terribly intense, so the lense is designed to help. The housing itself is what can contribute to blinding oncoming traffic. The lense plays a small, almost insignificant part in light output when you are dealing with something as bright as HID.
