OK first off sorry to post another question regaurding fitment but i'm having a hard time visualizing this stuff. I am looking at a set of rims that are 18x8.5 et34, my stock snowflakes are 16x6.5 et 53.
So I found a really cool calculator to help me out with this:
http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
when i punch in everything (using 205/55/16 for stock and 235/35/18 for the other tire size) it says that I will have more clearance near my suspension than stock and the it will stick out the fender an extra 1.3". My first problem is even when looking at my car I cannot visualize with it will look like if the rim sticks out another 1.3" I would imagine I would have to pull the finders to make it look alright but at the same time I'm thinking 1.3" is not alot.
My second question is how can it only stick out 1.3" when the new rim is 2" wider than the old. Where does the other .8 go, the calculator says it does not go toward the suspension, so is the calculator wrong?

Thanks for any help!

the other .8 does go toward the suspension but since wheels are et34 they are further away. with such a low offset you might be hitting body of the car while turning. 1.3" is a lot of stick out, if i were you i'd look for 40-48 offset wheels and if you are going with 235 tires you dont need more than 8" wide. 7 or 7 1/2 will do just fine.

Ok thanks for the reply, I really don't care about the tire size, I only used that size because that is was is already on the rims. I'm having a hard time finding what I want and when ever i see what I want the size is always wrong. :-(

when i look for wheels i rarely care what tires are on them as far as they have life left. If its a good deal take it remove tires and sell on CL buy then buy proper tires. In 5 years i've owned 9 sets of wheels and barely paid anything for them this way.

1.3" is a LOT of excess that will stick out past the fender. Look at your existing wheels, hold two fingers next to them and that's how far out.

The car will look like a roller skate.

So question then, do the newer imprezas use a lower offset wheel?
Here is a pic that he has and they don't look like they are sticking out at all.

Ok I found a rim that I like and I think it should fit. Its 17x7.5 ET48 and planning on 205/50/17s. Does that sound a little better? The only problem is that I'm gonna have to buy them new, o well I guess you have to pay to get what you want.

No, nearly the same offset.

Stretched tires and camber.

OK so i'v been looking at these new rims and tires, and i'm definitely going to get them, the question is should I go with a 205/50/17, or a 215/45/17? Keep in mind these rims are 7.5" wide.

Thanks for your help

225/45/17, better selection of tires and is the right rolling diameter and width for the 7.5" width wheel.
