Firstly, I admit I only looked through about four pages of searching before posting this; you have my complete permission to scold me if this has been asked before. :roll:
After taking the key out of my 1999 SUS today, I heard a quiet, high-pitched whine coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the throttle body, perhaps under it.
I also happened to notice a similar sound coming from a similar place in my mom's 2009 SE.
Neither sound is recurring; have not yet managed to reproduce it.
On the 99:
Had been working under-hood, with battery disconnected. Reattached it and turned car (not engine) on to close windows. Turned off and removed key, heard whine for about 2-3 minutes.
On the 09:
Spent 10 minutes with car on, engine off using a air compressor. Then turned the engine on for about two minutes, shut down, peeked under the hood, heard the whine, didn't notice when it stopped (>1min).
I assume it's electrical, but didn't think to DC my battery to verify; also, in case it is something like a fluid pump, didn't want to interrupt that. Ideas of what to look for? Failing sensor? Government radio tracker :smt027 ?
Incidental:
The only other really odd noise I've heard from my car (1999) has been a buzz from the AT transmission pan area after listening to the radio with engine off for too long (it's my signal to go dig out the jumper cables :oops: ). But that can be a separate thread.
<hr>
Edit: steps to produce
