mom got rear ended this morning in the outback

My mom was stopping for a yellow light and was almost stopped and was hit by a 94 F150 that was probably doing 35-40 mph. The drivers seat back on the outback broke, i wish i got a picture. Had it towed to my insurance company because i did not know where to take it. they took one look at it and sent it off to co-part to be auctioned. the frame is twisted and the whole back end would have to have been replaced. the LR door is pinned shut, and so is the rear hatch.

5-10 years ago they would put it on a frame machine and pull it back to factory spec but unfortunately insurance companies wont even give you $1000 for a gen 2 legacy unless you can prove to them that you have receipts for maintenance and restoration.

My mom has a lot of back pain and possibly got a minor concussion. I will post the seat pics tomarrow then the adjuster sends them to me. We are now starting to think about not getting a Subaru, because the ones in out price range are not that great of cars. We actually found a Saab 9-5 Linear with 185 HP turbo charged that we might get in almost perfect shape. then maybe this time next year we car afford a newer Outback with less miles.

We will have the local SAAB service center look it over and make sure everything has been done. The spark plugs could not be easier to get to. the serpentine belt is a PITA though. MY Outback was a money pit when i bought it and continued to be, so i am used to it. i will have to learn to do some of my own work.

And Chuck, you must live in the wrong region! Outbacks go for good money over here! Also, you have to know how to talk to the insurance company's. Red85celica got $2000 for his 92 Toyota Paseo he got a less then a month before for $600. You just need to know what to do.

They wanted to pay my $300 for my 83 Celica when I was rear ended. I got $1750 because I learned from my mom how to talk to them (she was an insurance agent). This was back in 2001... Oh, and I got to keep my car! :grin:

honistly if we get what we paid for the car i will be very happy. The SAAB I am trying to get service records on it that were from 70k to 140k miles on it to make sure everything has been done.

You cant seriously compare a Toyota to a Subaru. a 96 Carolla is still worth $6000 to the insurance companies (at least up here)

The book value of a 2004 Legacy GT is only $5000 ... I've written off a mint condition 97' GT to find that the book value (3 years ago) was only $1500 ....

So maybe its US vs Canada .. maybe its how you argue with the adjusters and the reps.. if you can prove your car is worth more then they say then good for you .

Mechanicly they are different.. they are not as easy to work on so not every shop will be willing to cut you a sweet deal on labour.

Also the thing about Blue Book is that it can be deceiving. An S13 240sx in awesome shape Blue Books at like $1,700. You cant get a POS for $2K. So it really has to do with the market. My car is worth more then market since it has been well cared for and many parts have been replaced. I sold my 1993 240sx coupe a little over a year ago for $3,400 with the blue book being $1,500. That was the going rate for that car, at that time.

Selling and getting a pay out from the insurance bastards are two different stories. Insurance companies will still low ball the book value .. they will nit pick about small items on the vehicle to justify the low offer.

It is sounding like i will get at least $4100 but probably more because the car was in such good condition. The adjuster does not come back until tomarrow and that is when we will find out.
also KBB for my outback was $3,9xx, almost $4,000 with 252k miles on it.

Yeah, that would be expected... Tell her to do everything her PT has her do and she will be back to normal or even better pretty fast! Well, fast can sometimes be a year... but the other good thing is she will get another settlement after thats all done. Tell her to hang in there... I know the feeling... It sucks! Hope she gets better soon.

And thats a good price for a car with that mileage! You did good! :smt023

Every accident I have been in was when I was with Hartford and they were good at making sure I was taken care of, however, they were non fault accidents, so that really doesnt matter so much. It was the other companies I didnt like.

GMAC and Farmers tried to rip me off both times, but that was because they were the other persons companies.

I'm now with Pemco, but thats because the rates and coverages are awesome!

my outback on Copart. i have tons of work done at the dealer. if you need some parts this would be a good car for parts.
also the woman who hit my mom got a careless driving ticket and the accident report says that she was going 35mph and my mom was at 0mph

forgot to mention that my moms hips and sacrum (bone in her lower back) were displaced from the accident and we found that out about 2 months after the accident.
