Oil seperator/ LW flywheel day!

Finally got the chance to pull the engine and change out the leaking (and plastic :roll: ) oil seperator plate with oem metal replacement. I figured while I was in there it was time to cash in on a long anticipated mod the lightweight flywheel!! 11lb, Unorthodox Racing unit.

I can't believe I hadn't done this before. All positives and no negatives that I have yet encountered. I took a nice drive home, and holy cow is it nice. Basically imagine it like this, 5th is 4th; 4th is 3rd; and so on. Responsiveness is up, acceleration is not only quicker, but EASIER! Car idles smoother, revs drop comfortably and not harshly like I thought. No problems up or down hills.
Plus, whoever thought it was appropriate to talk about how difficult it is to do stop/go is wrong and it's complete hogwash. I have NEVER driven a LW flywheel 5-speed before tonight and I didn't stall it once.

In a word, it's AWESOME and suggest all who can do it, to do it. :smt023

Man, so am I! I'm glad you talked me into it. I can TOTALLY see how much fun this would be with a turbo.

Update: More driving it today whilst through hellacious traffic and I still love this mod.

I was truly concerned that dropping over half of the oem flywheel's mass was going to be an issue (26lbs vs 11lbs), but surprisingly it really isn't. Everything just seems to run... better. I'm honestly surprised these aren't hailed more widely.

I hear that replacement oem oil air separator plate does not use a gasket, that true? The dealer recommended it to me but I just resealed my plastic one. I've always wanted a lightweight flywheel, they drive so amazing and you should notice a slight difference in gas mileage.

Yes, the new oil seperator plate uses Fuji-bond as a gasket, so resealing the plastic one is an option, but you run the risk of having it crack on you; likely at the bolt holes, and then you're right back where you started. Good luck with it!

Heading back on a 8 hour trip from Indianapolis motogp, and I haven't noticed a massive increase in fuel economy, but it's fairly constant at 29-30mpg.
