so i've been searching and searching through both the naturally aspirated and turbo forms, and i can't seem to find the difference between the ej22, ej22e, and ej22t. mainly, i want to know the difference between the regular ol' motor in the 1st gen legacies and the turbo motor in the, well you know, 1st gen turbo legacies. and since i have a naturally aspirated engine right now, i figured this was the right place to post.

Your best bet is Wikipedia. The main difference between the regular EJ22 and the EJ22T is that the EJ22T is a closed deck block as opposed to being open deck like the N/A motors. The EJ22T also has (someone correct me if Im wrong) all forged internals making it ideal for boosting. I've done a lot of research into boosting the n/a EJ22 (as that's what I have and want to do) and it can be done but I'd highly recommend at least a rebuild before adding boost. I wouldn't go higher than 10 psi and only go that high if your getting it professionally tuned.

Q: Is my 2.2L engine the same as in the non-turbo models?

A: No, the engine displacement is the same, but the engine is very different. In fact, it's unique to the US market to the best of our knowledge. The block is of a closed-deck design, ideal for high-boost applications. The crank and rods are forged, while the pistons are cast. This combination should be good for at least 300hp with proper engine management without needing to replace any internals.

off the top of my head the ej22e had (over the old ej22) different piston coatings, higher compression pistons, roller rockers, a different cam profile and a new intake manifold. While the ej22t had smaller valves and a turbo specific cam along with oil squirters, bigger oil pump, and the closed deck.
