Hey all,

A little new here - i've been wandering around a few times in the last few weeks and contemplating posting. I've took the dive. (:

I recently received an automatic '90 Subaru Liberty GX that was imported from Japan around 10 or so years ago.

I've ran everything as is for now - a few months and nothing has been too important to worry about - but lately I wondered what the flashing Power light on ignition meant.
I checked the books, checked the web and found it actually meant there was TCU error codes? I found they were the Duty Solenoid B and C errors.

Now I have a few questions and hopefully atleast a few will get answered..

1. This has been previously owned by an elderly lady after it's previous Japanese owner. I don't believe she's kept it in tip-top shape but it's definitely running well for now. A slight coolant leak somewhere but i'm confident it isn't a serious leak. I very much doubt she's checked what these errors are or even knew what they were for. What can I expect the damage to be if nothing has been done to fix these for atleast the months i've had it (5-6)?
2. Are these major problems to fix now? I'm a student, and I love the Liberty, i'd just rather garage it and take the bus instead of causing more permanent damage.
3. What are the best ways to fix the errors and is there anything else I should think about purchasing/replacing whilst i'm down there?
4. Are these fixes something a not-so-car-enthusiast could manage alone? I'm technically minded, I just don't know too much about car mechanics yet.

Thank you all,
I hope someone'll give me a few ideas where to look.

Depending on if is mechanical or electronic cause the issue. Mechanical can some times be fixed by running a carbon cleaner safe in oil like seafoam. Seafoam trans tune. You can clean some of the grime out it. Sounds like it hasn't every had the trans fluid changed. So run a can threw the transmission for a 300km or so and change the fluid. Flushed it you can. Electrical you could ohm test the sensor to see it there in spec. But to replace thems a bit of a project.

Would try the trans tune and fluid change first
