Hi

I have a 98 mdl 2.0 l, 2. gen station which I converted from AT to 5MT.

I have only two problem left, the speedometer and the reverse lights.

The speedometer I will fix with a longer cable (the box is from an impreza).

However, the gearbox has a new reverse light switch, which i have to connect to the reverse lights.

I have located the "brown wire with yellow stripes and dots" at the main harness on the front passenger side, near the computer (made sure its the rigth one) which is the + wire for the reverse lights.

Now i have the problem left to connect the plus side of the switch under the hood leading from the transmission into a power source, and to a negative.

My main concern now is, the switch from the transmission has two wires, the same colour. Does it not matter which i connect as a plus or minus ?

also, does it matter where I connect the minus (i.e. can I connect it straight to the negative of the battery ? )

and finaly, where should I connect the plus wire to recive power, and connect it to the located "brown" wire for the plus side of the lights ?

I hope this is not the worst english spoken on this forum , and hope that someone can help me with resolutions.

regards
bragi

Tap into the fusebox for a power source and ground the wire into the body. But the question has to be asked. Why cant you tap into the old 4EAT harness?

Below is the reverse light diagram.. This should help you. If you want more diagrams download the FSM from the link in my Signature.

Thank you for your answer, the reason i cannot tap into the old harness is because that the plug does not match, the gear selector (which i still have in the hood) is set to neutral so the car can start, and needs to be set in reverse to light the rev lights, also, since i am not good with car electricity, i would like to keep my setup (which took some fitteling to make do) and not mess with the engine computer =) .
