At lunch today, my colleague told me he's ready to buy his new commuter car and getting rid of his old junker. So I asked him what's his old junker. He replied Subaru 2000 RS25 175K miles, oil change every 3K, no oil leak, no oil consumption. He's asking $500, I just jumped out of my seat and asked for a test drive. Holy crap! it drives beautiful, fast, and fun.

Car is completely stock except adjustable coil over. I told him I take it when he buys his new car. He disclosed everything he knew about the car but afraid if something goes wrong in the future I might be mad at him. He hates to lose a friend over a JUNKER.

I want this RS so bad, what do you think?

Do it. For $500 you could have $2000 worth of stuff go wrong and you'll still be ahead of the game.

He reserved it for me and told me he rather sell his junker to someone who appreciates Subaru. I also hooked up OBD2 bluetooth along with my Torque SW tablet, all sensors look great, coolant temp is at 85C/185F which is great for the heads. HG never been replaced.

If I were close, I'd pull out $500 from the ATM and go buy it right now. I wouldn't pass up on a 2000 RS without a motor for that price, let alone one with the engine still running in it.

You already committed to buying my RS, your wifey made sure of that :smt006 :smt005

Seriously though, is there any thought consideration at $500 for an RS? I'd buy it for $500 and store it in Cali for anytime I ever visited, and that may be never

I would have driven that thing straight to the bank, then to the dealership so he could pick out his new car. "Junker" my ass...

Some people thinks when a car reaches near 200K miles, near death then it's a junker. He wanted a Fiat 500 and the dealer trade-in was $500.

Do it. For $500 you could have $2000 worth of stuff go wrong and you'll still be ahead of the game.

Yeah, more like $3500 could go wrong! Those sell for like $5-7K around here still! Commuter or tuner, thats an awesome deal! I would damn near drive to CA and give you a grand!

He still uses as his commuter 20 miles/day and looking to purchase a new car soon, within months before end of year. Car ran beautiful, no mods so issues. Most people modify intake/exhaust without re-tune ECU have CEL codes all over. With MAP sensor, the ECU Firmware goes to a look up table to adjust A/F ratio and doesn't know if car now has more air than before, engines runs too lean, CEL throws multiples codes.

I LOVE DEALS!!! How can you possibly go wrong here.

Now on another note (and not to be rude here) does your buddy know he is giving you a steal or does he lack something in the brain cell department?

Odycee

He's not Subaru fanatics like most of us, to him just an old car almost 200K miles, tired driving it, and ready for something new, a better MPG commuter. He doesn't care or know RS are being a rare breed now. He visited a few dealership and they give him $500 for it so he rather sell it to me. He also has last year 95 RX7 which he treasures much more than the RS uses as his daily driving. The man makes 6 digits plus with no kids, a few grand is no big deal to him.

Wow! I would fly to California immediately to get that car for $2000 (let alone $500) and drive it back to the east coast. Good for you.

Odycee you should probably pick this thing up before a massive line of SL-i members forms outside the owner's front door, trying to buy it. :smt082
