Looking to compile a list of trusted sellers importers of jdm wrx engines

Does anyone have any experience with the following.

http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/
http://www.texasjdmengines.com/

I hear sun motors is bad. Anyone else have any experiences? The good, the bad, the ugly?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I can tell you that the Impreza GC body never had a 2.5L engine in Japan. But apparently these guys found one:

Mine came from http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/ and was all wrapped up on a palet. I wish I could tell you about the buying/shipping process but I purchased it from a guy who bought it and didn't need it. I know a few people on here have used Tiger before so I'd at least check it out.

Seems like a lot of people go through jdmtiger.
Anyone else have any suggestions? I have a couple months before I order yet so i'm trying to do as much research as I can.

I've been to the jdmenginedepot warehouse in NJ. It's a pretty sketchy place, but their engines seem to be in pretty nice shape. We picked up an RB25 while we were there, and I looked over some ej208s while I was there. I've also had friends get engines from there multiple times. They hold up well if you don't over boost them

Doesn't that hold true with many engines :smt026

For anyone in Canada these are quality importers who stand by their warranty.

Now I need some wiring diagrams and need to learn how to merge the harness or just go straight to i-wire and pay the 600 bucks :P

Personally I'd pay the cost to have it merged - takes a huge load off your back. Can be done solo but I don't think there's going to be anyone with a complete wiring printout for your car to the new engine.

my only concern now is that this ej20k/g doesn't have forged internals. Since the engine is out I may want to get some forged rods+pistons :-/

lord flashheart

pay to have the harness done. because if you fuck it up, you have no clue where to start, it will take forever if you do it by your self, and probably look all gehetto.

it depends on how much power you want to put down with it. rods would probably be fine depending on how high you wanna revv it. i have seen them breaking at 7500rpms. forged pistons are always a good idea. but if your not gonna lean on it very hard you would probably be fine with cast. but since you are running a factory ecm, the power will be limited. as (to my knowledge) there is no way to tune a JDM ECU.

if you have 440cc injectors, on a 100% duty and .6 BSFC you will be at 279hp at the flywheel. which you should only run 90-95% max.
its actually hard on the ECU to be at 100%. the drivers in the ECU arnt designed to do max voltage all the time.
also if your driving, and its winter, the air is now more dense then when its summer so you can detonate and wipe out an engine very fast.

basically my thoughts are: you can make about 250 safely, and those cast pistons and rods should handle that.

Thank you for the input lord. I just want to do it right. I have been down the road with my mx6 with tossing a turbo on that and well lets just say i went through 2 engines before i said "screw this car". If anyone knows the klde klze engines.... sigh

The goal right now is to get it in the car and running reliably before we start to think about laying down big power or really modifying anything. I just wanted to start off with a good platform with forged internals so that step was taken care of ahead of time. (I know should have gotten and engine off the bat with forged internals) I still have a chance that these are forged internals but i'm having my doubts.

16-25 days for processing. Once I have the engine in my hands I can start to figure out what we want to do. At least the engine was built for boost to start with.

Hey lord flashheart...will this engine be capable of 300whp with proper tuning or will the internals need to be replaced? I'm just asking to see what I got to work with here.

Also the engine arrives this coming thursday :smt026 :smt023

With stock piston... Maybe but its pushing them. If you are conserveitive on the tune then you probably.could but how long those cast pistons last is the question.

Not sure where to find the engine code though. I found the serial. I just wanted to confirm if it was just ej20k from wrx or sti

Well the fast that it is "wasted spark" instead of "coil on plug" is a dead giveaway that it is a 20k (or ej20k style ej20g). An STI would have peeling red paint on the intake manifold.

Both the STI and WRX were rated at 280hp, but I'd wager that the STI was a bit under-rated.

Figured I would do a follow up.

Full swap details over here. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/t200923 ... oject.html (http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/t200923-alter-s-rs-project.html)

I gotta say the engine is strong. Runs like a champ with no complaints yet. I'm itching for more power already though. :-) Still have not seen what the car can do in the 1/4 or against any other cars to really get a full grasp at how fast this build is. Oh well just wanted to give everyone an update on how things went.

Cheers!
