View Full Version : LSi BD - to wing & skirt or not?!

I'm having trouble deciding if I should put a wing and side skirts on my BD or not.
How it looks now:

How it looked with skirts (held in place) without the new bumper & hood
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/08/sideskirt-1.jpg
I have a Tall grill w/ L7 badge in the mail, want to get Black Rally Armour Mudflaps w/ red letters eventually and paint the stock rims (color depends on how everything else turns out).
I plan on painting everything in the next couple weeks and am trying to decide if its worth it to paint the wing and sideskirts with everything since I would want it to match the color of the car.
Thoughts?
Suggestions?

I vote skirts. With the L bumper they're a bit too much, but with the Outback bumper they're perfect!

I vote skirts as well. But keep it wingless.

Skirt, no wing. Only Impreza looks good with wing, not Legacy.

Say what?! An OEM wing would look just fine!
And yes on the skirts, if you have a front lip, OB bumper, or a newer GT bumper.

Skirts + OB Bumper + Scooped Hood = WIN.
The wingless look is personal preference however the above combo is a must if you wish to have the body line flow .

You're right, OEM wing looks pretty good, not too overwhelming.

I was leaning towards staying wingless but ^^ looks really clean.. decisions decisions..
Anyone know where I could find a picture of pretty much the same car as the one above but with RA mudflaps. So basically w/ a wing, rear lip, RA mudflaps, and skirts??
I'll take some pictures within the next day or so on how it looks with the skirts held in place and OB bumper to better illustrate my dilema. I just don't think the lines from the OB bumper match that well with the sideskirts. I was thinking it would match better once I get mudflaps and eventually different wheels to help break up the lines.

So I took some pictures to try to prove that the skirts don't match with the OB bumper lines, here they are. Keep in mind I only put one screw in the front (so it sags a little) and only held it in place in the back (so it isn't seated like a fully installed one)

After looking at the pictures I feel they don't line up perfectly but that once everything is painted the color of the car it will flow much better.
Still haven't decided on the wing..

Looks great! I say stay wingless and keep the skirts black, it gives nice contrast to the car. But paint the front bumper where the skirt would line up black, so it matches the rest of the car, I did that when I still had my Outback bumper on my Outback.

Before JDM hit my car... This should give you a good idea what it will look like... A few different angles...

Oh something more I'll add... If you do any off roading at all, dont paint your skirts. The paint on mine were trashed till I pulled them off and re-painted them. My GT no longer goes off road since lowing has been done. You will feel bad if you mess them up.
Personally, I color match everything and everything most of the time. I couldnt look at my car if it had non painted rockers, trim and door handles, but thats me. That being said, when I finally get around to building a lifted Subaru, vary little will be painted as I know I'll beat the crap out of it. My GT is on road only now. I have 2 trucks for off road.

Have any pictures?!
I was also thinking about using Rhino-line or Line-X for the black parts
I need to get Photoshop again..!

Good point, I'm a college kid in SoCal using this as my Daily Driver so it's mainly driven on freeways/roads. However, a few times a year i'll make trips to the local mountains to go boarding, mayybe a trip to the desert to camp, or like this weekend to mexico to surf. I also personally like color matching everything so that's most likely the route i'm headed. I should be ordering some RA mudflaps soon after I get it all painted, I'm just trying to decide if the UR ones are worth it or if the Basic ones are enough.

The JDM mud guards are pretty nice, but if you go hiking, camping, or sand pounding they might not be the best. The one cool thing is that they are rubber. I have bottomed them out a couple times, just a few scratches, no real damage.

Good enough for me haha thanks man! I'll still probably get Photoshop eventually but I like the way that looks. After RA mudflaps, slightly lowered on 04 wrx struts/springs, and maybe black/gunmetal or white wheels she will start to look how I want her to!

 I don't have my glasses, so I didn't even notice the silver hood in that photo. I probably thought it was just a reflection of the sky :smt005

Skirts = yes
Wing = yes, but don't overdo it
Because the Outback bumper adds so much extra...bulk to the front, having a wing in the rear balances the look, IMO. Also, the bumper kinda sits lower than the current sides of the car, so the skirts add nicely to that - If you want them to match perfectly, maybe try the Mach 1 or Home Depot lip?
Colormatch everything = super win!

There, I fixed the hood :smt019
I also took the liberty of dropping the car via photoshop magic. What wheels do you want to run?

I use PS all the time to see what mods would look like on my car. Keeps me motivated, knowing what the final product will look like.

Sickest! Yea i'm most likely putting both the Skirts and Wing on now that I can see how it should look. I mean why not, I already have them and got them real cheap off craigslist.
For wheels, until I need to replace these I probably wont get any..buttt I did see some 05 Legacy ones at an Auto-wrecking yard the other weekend so thats a possibility. I also like the look of RPF1's! Cant decide White or Black tho. I'm most likely going to Plastidip the front part of the bumper and grill mat black since color matching everything else is going to cost a bit..so Plastidiping the stock wheels on there might look good until I can upgrade. Or painting them white if it looks better haha

What do you mean about over do the wing? I was going with the OEM GT wing, not a custom one if thats what you mean.
The OB bumper definitely does add bulk to the front, so I've made my decision. She will be winged and skirted!
