How do people see your legacy

I have to say I do get alot of people loving my car, even people actually trying to buy it off me but I still have others say negative things because its not a WRX or an STI. for example. A friend is talking about getting a sti wagon and other friends of his bring up being apart of the game because they drive Subaru I bring up that I do to and then eventually in the post hes like and I'm talking about "real subarus" mark lol I'm like what! This isn't the first time I've gotten riduquel for having a legacy and not and sti or something like that so I was just wonder, am I the only person that gets negativity or people bring down you're legacy or legacy's in general just because its not Subarus "sports car"?

I get a lot of mixed reactions. What pisses me off the most is when people say I have an Outback. I have to correct them and explain its a Legacy wagon and there is a difference. A few friends keep asking me if/when I am going to buy a WRX. At this point a BRZ would be more likely.

I've never had that happen, I mean I do have a sedan but still If I herd someone call a wagon and outback I'd want to hit them across the face lol but Yeah. personally I'd probably always chose a legacy over an sti or wrx but thats me.

Most people that own a subaru have a wrx or sti.... I have a lot of work done to my legacy and still feel like an outcast because its not a wrx or sti. I also own a wrx but love my legacy way way more.... I just bought the wrx for the speed....

Meh most of the WRX & STI guys are pretty young anyways. It's a lot like the Honda & Acura scene from the late 90s early 2000s. Oh you paid a shop to upgrade your WRX? How cute...

But yeah I have more in common with the Old School guys since we do almost everything for our cars and can't take for granted that there's going to be aftermarket support. I DD a turbo Legacy and have been waved at like twice by "newschool" owners. Oh well.

I've only gotten one wave, and I waved at the STi guy first. My BG isn't visually modified enough to differentiate it from the 29302983472 hippie haulers and lesbo wagons in the Madison area. :lol:

The local groups are dominated by wrx and sti owners, but I haven't noticed any negativity toward other models. These are genuine enthusiasts, not just some kid at a car show with a shitty attitude and a brand new ess tee eye.

Nah the subie owners i hang with are cool and does mostly everything them self's. I am the only legacy in the group with the exception of my friend kennys red 98 GT wagon he dailys but he doesn't bring that often to the meets but Yeah the subaru guys are cool with me that I hang with but I have run into other subie owners that have degraded legacys. Also I think my friend that said he meant "real subarus" also was talking about what they came with stock only because he praised the fourth Gen GT legacy but besides that one he pretty much said screw the rest.

I really wanted to fight a guy at a car show for a comment he made about my wagon, but everybody has their opinion that they are entitled to so I let it go......

About the only thing I've heard from friends is one friend I hadn't seen in a while asked "so are you building anything cool these days?" And I replied I had a WRX swapped GT now he said "oh so no, nothing cool then." This comment doesn't even bother me tho, cause honestly compared to what I was planning, a tuned up WRX swap is pretty boring. And he's got a 700hp integra so he thinks anything with less than 400hp is pretty boring haha

There is so much truth to what Reason said right there... I remember on the way to WCSS, one of the guys when we were meeting up for the drive in say my car and asked about it. He was all cool till he found out it was N/A. I have grown used to it. Even at the show, Legacy row hardly got any pics taken, it was all about the Impreza's or the mudders. Yamazaki, all of your cars are great cars in one way or another! The STi is a blast to drive! That I know first hand, and thats on a mild tune, but the feel of the S401 is so much different then any other car. I still remember talking about and you saying the STi was an M3 and the S401 is an M5. It truly is like that.

It was a nice driving 4 door that was also plush. I felt I had a more refined car then I would have with an Impreza. In the beginning, I wanted an RS REALLY bad! I still would like to maybe have one, but it's the people that are different.

I have grown up being the odd man out. Growing up my dad had a 72 Fiat coupe and an 80 Datsun truck. Mom had a Ford Escort and an Aerostar. My brother always had rusty trucks of Land Cruisers. My sister was the normal one with Honda Civics. I had a 66 Volvo at first.

So do I care that I drive the 'underdog' Subaru? Not at all! Thats one of the reason I love my Legacy! When I was into S13's, not many had them, I was one of the odd men out and I loved people not knowing what a Silvia was. Now, everyone and there brother has a 240... I dont get mad and it any more. If someone asks about my car, cool! I love telling people about it, but if not then I dont have to waste my time. I get nods and thumbs up for my car, more so from modified Impreza owners then I do from anyone else. The ones that know, do give respect regardless if you have a turbo or not.

In short, older people love my car! Mostly people over the age of 25-30. Kids, they look and thats about it. Old guys know something is up because it's so different looking. I've only gotten noticed once while in my turbo wagon, and that was by a guy in a Saabaru. My sedan gets noticed cause its got that light bar and those roof lights, its different from the rest so it gets seen by almost everyone.

Dude Exactly!!!! this is totally me right here to. Except for what my family drives. I do though have alot of younger people loving my car and legacy over all though surprisingly.

I hate to say it, but the WRX is the new Civic. It seems like every punk with a rich mommy and daddy are driving WRX's or STi's around here. I actually haven't been to a meet since I owned my first BD because most of the people there are just asshats. It used to be that our cars, as well as the GC/GF got a lot of love, but in the past 10 years, things have changed. A younger crowd with no respect for their roots or want for anything less than the best, newest, and fastest has left guys like us behind. I actually saw a video thread on RS25 a few weeks ago where a guy had made a video of his build, which was nice, but got scoffed at because it apparently made no sense to put any effort into showcasing the car because it was old and has no turbz.

I personally would not own a newer Subaru, not because of looks or anything, but because of their feel. For something I plan to play in, I love these older cars. The new throttle system in 06 ruined the cars, leaving a delay between hitting the gas pedal and feeling/seeing the rpms move. It's miniscule, but enough to make me feel disconnected, as if I am playing a video game. I love the connected, more raw feeling of a lowered BD or GC. I love our community, even if I don't get to attend a lot of meets anymore. Most of all, I enjoy these cars and building them up, as that is my passion. I refuse to accept the interests of others to sway what i do with my spare time. I do admit, it made me extremely happy to see that my last BD, a 4EAT EJ22, was faster around the auto-x course than all but one STi, even with their drivers.

In my opinion, if you are here for any other reason, you may as well trade your car for your turbz and glamor and hop over to NASIOC...better yet, sell the car to one of us before you leave so someone can truely enjoy it.

I guess its all about who you hang out with, cause I get a lot of compliments in my car, even when I had my 3-tone gray/black/flat black SS. We have all kinds of cars in our club, and I'd guess the average investment is $5-7k and we drive the hell outta everything we.own. I don't even go to the local Subaru meets ever cause even tho they are nice people, they've always been a bit snobbish towards the other local club I'm in and I just can't stand them being that way for no reason.

Yes! This right here! Before the WRX, was the 240sx. I was in that world when it happened. Whe I got my Legacy, WRX's were really spendy so only people with good jobs or didnt really know the power potential got them. About a month or so ago, I meet a 19 year old girl driving an STi. She didnt even know what she was driving. I didnt ask how she got it, but I get the feeling, daddy got it for her.

Dont get me wrong! I love all Subaru's, well not so much the first gen Tribeca... :smt005 I have met some great people that only have Impreza's. Some of them are willing to learn history such as the first WRXish car was a Legacy. I'm betting a ton of Legacy guys didnt even know that Loyals in the 80's had Turbos also.

But yeah, it's a mind set thing. One of the guys at the WCSS meet that I met just got a 05 STi and didnt know much of anything about it. He knew it was fast, but that was it. He however was willing to listen to a couple Legacy guys (me and ags18), so not all are prudes.

We are the Black-sheep! Does it bother me? Never! What bothers me is when someone wasnt to give up a Legacy for a WRX because it takes more work to make a Legacy go faster. I'm making my Volvo go faster, it's called work.

With air, ride, sunroof and super plush seats! Out of all the cars I've had my loyale is the only one I miss even though it was an auto. But yeah most wrxers around here don't say much face to face but I know what they are thinking.

I remember the 1st Subaru I ever remember seeing was my friends big brothers 87ish XT. We thought it was a super cool car! It had air ride also! Light blue and just cool looking for 1990, as a 9 year old kid it was cool!

My brothers ex girlfriend's brother had an old Loyale that had like 500K on it and was trashed, but never died. That was about 3 years before I got my Legacy. You need to know the history of a car, to love them all, even the bad ones.

Most of my close friends arent what I call car guys. They rather buy a fast car than build one. I get hazed for how my car sounds and it being a Subaru, but when they have car problems or want parts they come see the Subaru guy. I dont care for or need compliments about my car, have you seen it? I want a car that is fun, looks I worry about last. Those people that ignore my car are usually the ones I wouldnt want to talk to and my A.D.D. would kick in and I would space out. Not all of these guys are the same, but the crowd did make a name for themselves. It will change as they get older.

It seems to me that nobody (outside of the Subaru realm) realizes that you can basically unbolt everything in an STi/WRX and bolt it to a Legacy. Even guys with new WRX's/STi's don't even know their car's roots; the word "GC8" is met by blank stares.

In Colorado, Outbacks are seen as grandma/hippy cars, whereas the WRX is basically the new street racing DSM.
I get a TON of double takes by people who see an Outback, but hear a modded STi. :lol:

Its lowered but visually stock everything besides h.I.d. lighting...
I get thumbs up by other Subaru owners all the time and get invited to Subaru meets..
I also have an exhaust..
But I do get comments like grandmas car or beach car..

Yeah I just got some little shit just now and its just amusing at how much some people care about YOUR car lol. I brought up how at times I want to raise my car but then when I see it how it is slammed I change my mind and then one of my "friends" comments it saying I'm not slammed, and then another is like "yeah on stock ass wheels and auto" as in my car being automatic. I find it funny because I know I want wheels but I can't afford it right now, I seriously want them to buy me some wheels if it bothers them that much haha, and then the not slammed part. OK I'm not going to argue with that when I had only two other people in my car and I was scraping exhaust while going down a friends street the other day. lol I'm not even going to respond or anything to them plus I don't race or drift it so I don't think it matters what the transmission is plus its a second gen legacy, it isn't like I can go to car max and find bundles of them, at least not here in Houston you wont.

I know it sucks to get chastised for your hard work but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. What does matter is how these cars make us feel and the smile that they put on our faces.

I've driven a Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, G37 and what have you but nothing so far has made me grin more honestly than winding out that dual cam leaking monster that sits between the fenders of a car more associated with lesbians with dogs than anything else.
