Is there any way to identify ECU's by the code on them?

Both of these ECU's are supposedly from a 2000-2001 Forester MT
W5 22611AG021
1L 22611AG024

The second says it's compatible with ECU's
Ident: 22611AG020
Ident: 22611AG021
Ident: 22611AG022
Ident: 22611AG023
Ident: 22611AG024

Anyway, if anyone has a way to verify make/model and compatibility for ECU's I'd really appreciate it!

I've found over the years that same year ecus tend to work. Sometimes even same engine series but not always.

Thanks Mike. I'm running an ECU from an EJ251 out of an RS and it seems to be causing some issues (at least I think it's the ECU) due to the lack of Atmospheric Pressure Sensor on my motor. I'm hoping running an ECU from a Forester will fix it.

Look up what year forester ecu you think it is on www.car-part.com (http://www.car-part.com) most of the junk yards will list the ecu numbers on there, that's how I found out I have a 97 LGT ecu in my car (which is the correct one thankfully)
