I have an 03 legacy that I want to swap to 5x114. I have the brembos and the wheels (from a '10 STi) but I dont want to do a 6mt until next year. I was going to pick up all 08+ STi hubs, which will/should bolt up to my legacy.
Fronts: I've heard the 05+ STi axles will work for my front axles (verification?).
Rears: I have a 4.11 final drive currently, so i'd need a 4.11 rear diff that would work with the R180 axles, which there aren't any?? looking for some guidance there.
thanks

Now I am not 100% on this but for the fronts you will need to pull the stubs out of the transmission because the axles on our cars have a female input on the transmission side.
for the back... you might have to get some made or do a frakenaxle where you pull the wheel side off of both axles and install the sti wheel side on your legacy axle.
now this is all off the top of my head I could be all wrong with this... lol

05 axles arent going to work with the trans in stock form. but im not sure if pulling the stubs out of the trans is an option and if the axles would work then or not...
i know early 04 wrx's had stubs in the trans, but im not sure if the STi's came the same way. if they did, might try a set of 04 axles.
as for the rear diff, its always easy to swap ring and pinions to a 4.11
i hate hybrid drivetrain swaps for this reason. axles are a bitch lol.

Not sure on the fronts but I've read up quite a bit on front axles working with pulling the stubs just like mlitz said. For the rear check with companies like the driveshaft shop that make r180 axles for w/5x100 hubs, yours would be the opposite so maybe they have left over parts. Or find an r180 and find 4.11 ring and pinion for a r180, which are rare but I see them on nasioc every once in a while, then use 05+ Sri rear axles.

thats the thing, i'm not aware of any R180's in 4.11, so idk where that would even come from, unless it was non-subaru.

thank you for the link. I suppose this would be a very expensive endeavor, trying to find one of those diffs, and a USDM R180, and swapping parts. at least i'll have the R180 and the parts when I go to do a 6mt later.
and as I suspected, the only way to do 4.11 R180 is with non-subaru parts. no surprise! at least nissan/subaru tend to work from the same parts manufacturers.

i picked up some SVX rear axles the other day. a few points to confirm.
1. parts stores (napa, autozone, baxters) cant actually get the SVX rear axles (new/reman) anymore apparently. i found some online but they were WAY too expensive.
2. I can confirm they are the exact same diff splines as a JDM WRX/STi R160 MLSD (standard phase 1 splines on one side, and double-splines on the other side). luckily i have 2 of those JDM MLSD diffs.
3. Instead of using an MLSD R160, you could get 2 rear left side axles from an SVX and run any phase 1 R160 diff
4. I can confirm the hub side fits a STi R180 hub
5. To my knowledge there are no axles that have STi/R180 fitment on the hub side and phase 2 diff-side (the newer diff splines)

You can send your cores out to A1 Cardone to get rebuilt.... those axles are on a critical core program.

Thats the problem. I don't have any cores.
