EJ25D heads, phase 1 or 2?

Is there an easy way to spot if an EJ25D head is a phase 1 or 2? I picked up a set of heads from a 98 forester 2.5 DOHC for my build.

If it's a N/A DCOE, then it's a phase I.... SOHC is phase II...

Also I have a 98 Forester 2.5 DOHC 2.5 in my GT... it's a phase I

From what I've been told, have a look at how the intake manifold bolts line up;
if they're all in a row: phase I
if they're staggered: phase II
This should apply to DOHC

If it's a US motor, the ej25d heads are phase I. As mentioned above, it's possible to have a factory EJ25D with phase I heads and phase II shortblock. The ej25d phase II engine was available for Japanese Subarus.

I was lucky enough to have this. I get to use the 2.5 sti pistons/rods without machining :grin:
