How did the car handle?

I almost took my Subie out to the local auto-x, but I ended up helping with someones car and then just taking pics.

well, i went to the last race too which was two weeks ago but i didn't make a thread about it because i was waiting for the pictures to be posted. they never were. but, yesterday's pictures were posted this morning, so...here's the thread.


Handling:

i seem to have a problem with not slowing down around turns and with 205/75r15 trailmarks, i tended to turn the wheel though my car continued to go straight. by the last two runs i slowed down around the turns and got a lot better traction but i think my time with about the same, so, at least i saved some tire tread.

the takeoff is a little sluggish (auto) even with a brake torque start and the shifts were a little slow after the pedal hit the floor.

it was a VERY fast course so i couldn't just leave it in 1st like i did last week.

maybe i'll set up a map of the course in Illustrator on my mac and post it so you can see how it went.

Aghhhhh! Understeer! I hate understeer. I am spending a LOT of money to eliminate it in my GC8 haha. A rear strut bar, stiffer springs, and some wider tires would help lots with that. Also, try rocking the car a little bit before high speed corners (depending on how good a driver you are), sometimes you can eliminate that front wheel scrub by shifting the weight around, especially if your car isn't lowered.

it's a mod. i can switch the awd to 4wd for offroading

yeah.. i would too. (i'm big into lists today evidently)

1) the wife frowns upon offroading in my only car
2) theres NO rallyx in pittsburgh or else i'd be there
3) i live in the beverly hills of pittsburgh...wexford
4) there are trails around here and i'm already on the Warning list of the county cops for driving on, what i thought was, a utility access trail which the cop said was a bike trail in North Park.

i think the camero was lifted for drag racing.

that makes sense with the whole drive a slow car fast thing. with how well i did with MY car, i'd love to drive my buddy's RS some time. even my sister's corolla and see how well i do. i really that if i had a better car for the race i'd be a pretty darn good novice driver.

Thats looks like alot of fun. Were you able to keep it in 2nd? When the auto is in 1st or 2nd gear it has a 50/50 distribution that has always keep my understear pretty controlable.

never heard that. i've heard similar things for manuals, but not for auto.

no, it was way too fast for me to be worried about shifting. i was just taking the turns too fast for my tires.

Auto is locked in 50/50 if it's in (1) or (2) on the gear selector.

5MT is full time 50/50.

That is exactly what I did. I practiced day in and day out on roads in clifton in my accord, and I set faster times than a lot of my friends simply due to the obcene amount of seat time I had in the car. Now I know how to 1. fight understeer, 2. maintain momentum due to an underpowered car, 3. gutter drift, 4. conserve brakes and tires when needed

see, i've got the 4x4 switch that turns off the dutyC, but i don't think i'm ever going to try racing with it because i'm fairly certain something will break.
