Like the title says and does this happen when something is up or is this normal with our cars.

something about the coolant?

acid vapor can get out from around the post after time, causing corrosion. quick thing to do is buy anti-corrosion rings, it will slow it down.

I have always had corrosion around the terminals. Using the anti-corrosion rings and dielectric grease helps but doesnt stop it completely.

The last battery I bought for the WRX was the X2 AGM battery from Battery plus. It is guaranteed not to corrode even without the anti-corrosion rings because it is glass mat battery.

It was a little spendy but hs a 5 year NON prorated warranty... meaning if the battery goes dead within the 5 year period, they give you a brand new one on the spot for 5 years past the initial purchase date.

something about the coolant?

Other way around - if you have poor electrical connections, it can cause the coolant to break down.

But coolant doesn't cause this problem.

Those anti-corrosion rings will help the problem, but you might just need a new battery.

That's pretty bad. When was the last time you cleaned it?

Also, one of these tools works wonders:
http://www.harborfreight.com/battery-te ... 94450.html (http://www.harborfreight.com/battery-terminal-cleaner-94450.html)

You can find them most places for around 2-5 bucks.

Till yesterday a few weeks ago.

Wow, thats pretty bad! I think I clean mine about once maybe twice a year.

Reasons for it could be the battery is old, coolant does turn to acid when it's old, and also bad connections.

Like I said, I dont have this problem and if I see any, it's cleaned off fast. I have had the problem for a while now...

More or less its the battery being old then, I have no chemical leaks or anything and
I've had the batter since sometime back in 2010 so I guess just the battery is causing this.

They make a purple spray you spray on the posts after cleaning them that also helps prevent this from happening. I used to use it back in the day before I started using sealed batteries.

If its only been a few weeks, definitely get a new battery. That looks like a year's worth of a corrosion.

Yeah a few weeks making it a month since I've cleaned them last till yesterday but I probably will.

try a penny on the top of the battery and dielectric grease that should work

Only works marginally and only with pre 1983 pennies as they have enough copper to make them a sacrificial conductor.

It isn't doing this anymore.

Clean all the grounds up to where they mount on the car. Also could be a leaking battery, but most likely a bad ground somewhere.

Mine did this like crazy too, people kept telling my my battery was bad and it wasn't but after putting in my sound system I gave up and got a dry cell.
