Timing belt question.

I'd like to know if there are signs to look for that can tell you that you need a new timing belt as in anything that can let you know without looking at the belt it’s self. I'm going to take my car to a shop and have them look at it and see if I'm due for one because my legacy has actually be acting like it doesn't want to start again lately and I just want to see how the belt is because I bought my car back in the beginning of 09 and I haven't touched the belt to see if it needs to be replaced and have no clue when the last times its been replaced.

IIRC subaru has a 90k interval service time before they want you to replace it.
some visual signs are, you can start to see impressions of the teeth on the smooth side, cracks, teeth are worn

REALLY!?!?! I thought it was the typical 120k. Ugh if so.

Unless you jumped time, you can really only tell by visual cues. It's a belt afterall so look for tears, rips and wear marks. Check the tension too and count your teeth.

Iirc pre 2000 timing belt interval was 60k, 2000 and later is like 110k or something like that. At least that is what someone else said on these forums.

Any trick to get to all the timing belt cover bolts to check it?

Not really use a deep well socket and wrachet for easiest access, if you need more clearance then you are going to have to remove the rad fans.

just take off one of the inspection covers (3) 10mm bolts

Okay I plan on changing the timing belt and water pump so mow I need help on finding a good timing belt kit that isn't to expensive so definitely give me yawls input.

Okay, ill do this if yawl trust it, just don't want to put cheap parts onto this area of the car since the belt braking or anything messing up could kill my engine.

gates belts are OE on subarus, there water pumps are reboxed GMB pumps. IIRC the pulleys are GMB too since its a sister company to gates, all good quailty
