Im wondering if replacing my factory tape player from my 95 legacy (BK) To an Alpine CDE 9852 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IaoMQ85R04 ... eviews-tab (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IaoMQ85R04b/p_500CDE9852/Alpine-CDE-9852.html#customer-reviews-tab)) Will go back in the console without a specific install kit,or is the Alpine head unit too large to put the original trim back in place after the install? Thanks...... :smt017

It's a single DIN unit like most that are available, so it'll bolt right up to the factory brackets and fit right in the same space as the stock tape adapter. The only thing you should need extra to install this is the harness adapter (which crutchfield usually throws in for free when you buy from them).
Crutchfield will also try to tell you that double DIN units won't fit the BD/BG/BK. This is untrue, as I have run them before. The dash pocket right below the tape deck is also a single DIN size, so you can potentially put the deck down there, or run a double DIN unit as well.

Thanks for your reply,im going to look into the harness but is it the multi wired harness that usually plugs into the back of the
Alpine head unit that you are speaking of because that is already with the unit if not is there a special adapter to accomadate the Subaru factory plug or am i just going to manualy wire it together and use wireless connectors like i assumed i was going to do?

What I'm talking about is a harness adapter to plug into the Subaru plug, so you don't have to cut up the subaru harness to splice it. Much much easier that way.

That way you can splice together the adapter and the alpine harness outside of the car - then when you go to install it, all you need to do is plug it into the subaru plug. Everything's color coded, so it's a pretty easy job.

Thanks,i thought thats what you were talking about. I didn't know that they made a specific harness available so you wouldn't have to cut the original harness apart. Hey.thanks for that link too im just going to buy that one from Crutchfield and wait for the install now.

Just to add to what Mark said...
You can fit just about anything in. I got an adapter harness from a car at the J/Y years ago. These are a piece of cake to install, if you get a new harness adapter, they will be color coded so it will be easy plug and play as soon as you do that.
I have had 3 different head units in my car... Dont have a pic of my Limited Subaru deck, but it's a Double DIN.
Current... Kenwood

Thanks for posting, those head units fit realy well. I was afraid that they would be larger then the stock tape unit and would require the install kit but great to know that the original factory trim will stay intact after the install,im definately going to go for the harness that you and Mark suggested way better then cutting wires and using the heat wrap connectors i was planning on. I just thought our cars were too old to have anything like a harness still available on an aftermarket sites.
